PS3s hidden magic trick - If this doesn't impress you, nothing will

The PS3 will incorporate a virtual world like nothing ever seen before. Home will be directly accessible from the PS3 XMB and will give PS3 users to ability to interact in a fully fledged 3D world.

As the world expands, users will have their own private spaces, be able to share music, interact with users and even play games with them.

Home is simply the most advanced and astonishing virtual world ever created and makes Xbox Live look rather yesteryear.

I'm still thinking it's basically the Miis off of the Nintendo Wii, only with nicer GFX?

I wonder if it's possible to live in a virtual house which is a dirty smelly pit, festering pizza on the couch, roaches in the kitchen, etc.?

I was thinking that as I was watching this. What a great place for computer geeks to get together and interact. The next level from the forums....We would never have to leave home again...

lol..... this is so overhyped. i thot around a million ppl or more used Second Life.... and this is something no one have ever seen before? its just a modified second life, Xbox Live and adding Sims 2 concept - just like Sony did with their motion sensitive controller (Wii).

Xbox Live is a very stablished online service (it's one the best things MS came up with for Xbox), and Microsoft knwos what they're doing - inlike Sony who's changing focus eevry month. I'm not saying this "HOME" is actually worthless... but Xbox Live obviously has better online experience for gamers and was a truely innovative idea. X-Live wud never be yesteryear: esp when Sony is the one "following" MS in online gaming world: no matter what they come up with, Microsoft clearly stays ahead in this: The user experience in Xbox Live is far superior than any other gaming experience via Internet - Sony doenst even come close. PLUS: MS is bringing more to this Xbox Live that truely lives up to a GAMERs needs. Soon Windows Online networks wud also be connecting - i know it chanrges you money, which Sony doesn't: but there's the catch: Good Things in Life are not always free.

What does Xbox Live offer which we don't already have, and have had for many years, on the PC?

I ask because I don't have an Xbox and when I look at the list of features for it. I see nothing which is new to me or "invented" by Microsoft.

Plus, I can already do all these things for free. If Xbox Live comes to Windows, will PC owners really want to pay for something they already have?

I totally disagee.
1. Xbox live is not revolutionary in the slightest.
2. Second Life is nothing like Home.
3. I hardly see how this is Sony changing focus every month. What is it that they keep changing?
4. Sorry, but Xbox Live IS yesteryear compared to Home.
5. I highly doubt Xbox Live is a far superior gaming experience than say, WOW.
6. How can you compare these two products when you have never used Home?

I can see myself losing my life to Home.

Even though I don't own a PS3 yet.

So sexy.

I feel that I must preface this post by saying that I DO have a Xbox 360 and that I am an Xbox Live subscriber.

Now that that's out of the way, I'd like to say that I feel that this 'Home' idea is quite overblown. It sounds to me as though you actually need to do some traveling in this virtual space in order to get to any of your information, which is a huge turnoff to me. I have never used Microsoft BOB before, but the two concepts seem quite similar.

My online console gaming experience is mostly geared towards short bursts of friends as well as strangers. I don't necessarily want to talk to people I haven't met before when I turn on my console.

I suppose that some people might find this whole social interaction thing very alluring, but I can't be counted as one of them. I remember finding the Sims to be a decent distraction for a short period of time, but it was meaningless to play without a goal of any kind. I suppose that's what I need when I play video games; I need a goal to shoot for, whether it's explicitly stated in the story or simply to be the best I can be. I suppose that my inability to find this interesting runs with my inability to see websites like MySpace and Facebook as anything but shallow self-gratification tools.

The bottom line is this: when I turn on my console, I want to eradicate the invaders or beat the other team or beat down crime or take all challengers. Where Xbox Live cuts straight to the point, Home seems as though it beats around the bush quite a bit. Sony still needs to give me a reason to purchase a PS3 because this quite simply isn't one.

u probably didnt use live then? cuz there are many advantages liek using ganmsescores to purchase stuffs, download things, ranings and also if u kindly check out the last E3 presentation on wat it will be doing. its INVENTED, cuz those are great ideas dat was put into it.. not just traditional network based gaming and it was all brought in CONSOLE gen, Sony learned the whole online thing from MS... and it still doesnt have enough of anything dat wud make purchase of a PS3 just for Home. PC doesnt have ONE single online gaming patform lke Live with all features, so it doesnt even come in the same league. MS geared this idea into console, cuz it was the place where a sole gaming network cud start to bloom, and now undoubtably the most successful one!

Second Life, Sims they all have a lot of same concepts related to Home... add Live to it. Now if u just simply disagree dats something ure thinking. If X-Live isnt revolutionary - than HOME is not even an idea made by Sony. MS & Nintendo really did more in nexgen than Sony... point is MS gives stuffs to X360 that GAMERS really need/want... i dont want to ckeck my emails or chat on a 3d world... some stuffs are just functional the way they are. online gaming service has no added advantage to HOME than Xbox Live... Live is more stablished, properly designed, efficient and wider than Home. only thing u cud say where MS is worse than Sony is its PAID service... but even if its paid, its better just by looking at what Home would be. these are 2 diiferent approaches, and Live is a better way of doing it.

Please can you use the spell check button and write "That" instead of dat. It makes reading your post difficult and hard to take you seriously.

Properly designed? How? How are you measuring the success of its design? Design in that sense is more broad than you can possibly imagine. You are judging a product you have never used.
More efficient? How are you measuring the efficiency of these systems? How much electricity they consume? How easy it is to navigate?
Wider than Home? In what context? Home is and will be a vast, vast, VAST 3d world. I haven't a clue how this is a justified comment.

The glaring point about consoles that your missing is they are no longer solely designed for gaming. Although gaming is of course their main job, current generation consoles are a serious attempt at convergence systems. Films, Music, Internet, Documents. Consoles aren't just designed for the gamer anymore.
And when you say "stuffs", what do you mean by it? Services? If so, what ones? Again, I'm left confused by your analysis of the two products.

As for your first comment, I have. Briefly, but I have.

Personally from what I've seen, anyone who enjoys playing with dolls should enjoy this. Actually getting to be Barrie and Ken, should thrill millions!

Let's take Barrie and Ken shopping! Look they can spend real money! Your Money! Let's go over and see how Barbie and Ken are rated today!

Look there's ken's new friend Sally! Say hello to Sally Barbie!

( OK What am I missing here? It can't be this banal.)

in last 11 years of internet usage, i didnt really see or felt dat to use "dat" for "that" give u so much trouble... not even in this post, until i said something that contradict what u say.. i hope u get "dat".

i thought ud know this, but here's the explanataion:

well deisgned & efficient: not just putting up anything that u can think of, but up to the limit of what is required... cosnoles dnt merely play games, but if they intend to be like computers - that is not what a console requires to do!

hav (READ: have) never used it.... u (READ: YOU) have? ure (READ: YOUR) post starts with the fact dat (READ: THAT) it has to impress u or else nothing can... but howd u guess "that"...

WIDER like duh doesnt eman how big ure world is, but how many ppl are connected and how big ure coverage is... Sont falls short in "that" too.

oh and btw (READ: By The Way): This was not a HIDDEN Trick of PS3... Sony just came up with now... they surely didnt have it preplanned.. so there was nothing hidden. Surely they need to come up with stuffs to try to catch up wid (READ "with") Microsoft... even the FREE Service wasnt enough...

I'm sorry Saquib but it's at this point that I give up. Your post makes no coherent sense to me and you attack my inability to decode your pointless use of confusing abbreviations that aren't even accepted Internet lingo (e.g LOL or IMHO) but merely deliberate mis-spellings.

Your first point is wrong, IMHO. Consoles shouldn't just be consoles anymore. I think Microsoft and Sony know more about what is required from their machines than you do.

What the hell? I am not trying to be awkward saquib but for the life of me what is your point here? I really can't see what your saying. It makes no sense.

Coverage? I think Sony has a vast, "wide" coverage. And to be honest, that's not something either you or me know enough about to comment on. It also seems an irrelevant point to me.

No, Home isn't hidden as such but I used that word because it is a feature that many people seemed unaware of. Again, instead of debating the actual product this thread is about your just launching into an attack on me.
I am not stupid saquib. I know what "wid" means and I know what "btw" means. I just do not appreciate deliberate use of bad English that does nothing for your arguement and make you impossible to understand. I also don't appreciate the leering and sarcastic attitude of your previous post.

Quite frankly you are both wrong.

Both MS and Sony's offerings to market are late to market compared to this, and are quite frankly not as good either.

It is quite obvious that Nintendo's original GameBoy, circa 1989, is the first and the best networked console. Pokêmon Red and Blue are far superior to Home in every way and the link cable is a far more user-friendly gaming service than XBox Live ever will be!

End of discussion!!

Please keep it civil in this thread. This is a discussion of Sony Home, not a slagging match.

If you can't understand what someone is saying, just ask them to explain politely or don't reply at all.
