Did you really lose?

Or were you cheated by a fellow gamer armed with a hack?

Online Gaming's Seamy Underside
— Tim Wilson, Site Editor, Dark Reading
JULY 12, 2007 | You're playing an online game in which players are warriors who can only walk, jump, or run. Suddenly, another player appears out of nowhere, draws his sword, and hacks you to bits.
Game over. But were you really beaten by a superior player? Or did a hacker or cheater simply rig the game? A new book that will be published tomorrow suggests that in the gamers' world, the cheaters often win....

This summer has seen a rise in the number of people I have seen cheating at online games. It's annoying to think that they are getting an unfair advantage, and are, for the most part, getting away with it, even if they are banned from individual servers.

Are they? Getting away with it? I know it looks that way when your beaten on your favorite server and can't quite figure out why. Or your pretty damn sure you know why!

But let's look at how you feel when you do something wildly beyond your everyday game and send the arrow though the ax heads to an impossible bullseye....

Let's leave this to for a moment and ask, why are they cheating?
No money in it. If you want money you get very very good and you can't do that if your fall-back is always to cheat.

So why? To make an indifferent world believe your better than you know yourself to be? For the most part I think yes. That and to spite better players whose real skill would normally render them beyond the enfeebled reach of a cheater.

But at the deepest level here's what I think they are after. We can go back to that moment of your purest excellence now; and the feeling of grace that comes with it and to soon departs.

I think that is what they are after and have forgotten or never knew how to acquire for themselves. So they try to frustrate other players, build a false image of their abilities and search endlessly for the enjoyment they lost when they started cheating.

That said, Cheating can be a riotous game! The game becomes to cheat better than your cheated. But for that to work we need cheating servers...I think ...didn't I hear about a service or server for cheaters?

They do spoil, but I don't think they get away with much...

Said Cheaters rarely, if ever use the cheats to gain an advantage. They almost always use the cheats to annoy the genuine players.

I never lose

The server/player always lies

I don't think there is much of an increase of cheats in css. Cheats have always been right along side gaming. I have never understood why some people go around with total blatant hacks, what a waste of time and potential skill.
As for getting away with it, I am sure there are lots of them getting away with it. Lets be honest with ourselves, if we were going to cheat, you wouldn't be blatant about it, because as mentioned above, what's the point? You would do it to give yourself the "edge".
It upsets me
