Now there are suddenly several Demo's that won't run Pro, but do XP, which I've been pretty much assured is not a feature enablement in XP that "po 'ol pro just can't hack.

Here's what I find funny, the number of people who don't seem to think MS wouldn't do this. When MS itself is not coy about it. In my view all that's saving XP right now is the utter failure of Vista... once they get/if they get vista working they will crush XP as well.

Up until now the question was "Will my card run well with XXX game?"
How many popular recent games can still run on win 98? Perhaps not that well but run?

Bioshock can't even open, yes I'm told there IS a fix, steal three XP dlls. Actually I'm told they were originally Pro dlls, but were renamed in XP, which is why pro can't find them. (all hear say! I'm in no position to know the truth of any of this personally.)

But what I think is clear, MS has no loyalty to her own past or her past customers, why would one hope they will have these for there future customers?

Bottom line, I can't play some games because MS doesn't want me to be able to. Not because my OS is unable to natively.

Here's the thing that doesn't make sense to me though.

My 6800GT in my desktop, is more powerful than the 8400GS M in my laptop, and since the majority of current cards shipping are low end Nvidia and ATI, like the 8400, is it supported or not.

eg, a 7600 GS, is slower than a 6800GT as well. Is it supported?

The 7500, 7300 are all slower.

I just hope it cost MS as much to screw me (Sabotaging W2K) as it's costing MS to get screwed by Vista.

this game may be the first to flop due to ridiculous requirements. What percentage of users have anything close to these requirements?

Edit: My bad I was looking at the ridiculous recommendations rather than the not quite so ridiculous requirements.

Supported, but playability will probably be loosely compared to constipation.

Although you havn't had much luck with it as of yet, Cedega does in fact work (brilliantly for me), and due to Transgaming's deal with EA, Crysis will be playable on Linux, even if it is not playable on Windows 2000.

At present, Cedega fully supports DirectX 9.0C. It wouldn't surprise me if there was DirectX 10 support on Linux sometime early next year given the pace Transgaming is working at.

By the way Dan, have you tried getting help on the official transgaming support forum? They have paid reps there and your subscription fee entitles you to their assistance.

I don't know why, but those minimum specs just really annoy me.

Basically, unless you can afford as much on a GFX Card as a PS3 costs, you can't really play the latest games for the PC.
Not only that, but you have to buy another £400 GFX card 4 months down the line, so that you can keep playing the latest games.

My X1950Pro was considered seriously high end a year ago. I mean, other than the XT, it was ATIs highest range card.

Now you can pick one up on eBay for £40. And if you try and play a new game, your treated to a blurry, FUBAR slideshow such as I got with Stalker.

Really. Really, why do this? Why? Do these people only care for the rich?

AP I played stalker with the same card you have with an average 70 fps. You just need to turn off dynamic lighning and the rest can go on high. So either youre lazy or you have no ideea on how to set the graphics inside a game !!!

The minimum specs really aren't that bad. Remember that with Core 2.0Ghz they are also including Core Solo and Core Duo CPUs. They also mention Athlon 2800 to encompass the entire Athlon series of single, dual cores, etc. The aren't saying that you need at least a Core2Duo 2Ghz to play the game.

Your X1950Pro will play Crysis just fine, certainly not at 1920x1200 with 4XAA and all details turned up, but I assure you it will still look very, very good at playable settings.

AP.

I can play all current new games on my X1900XT 512MB on high settings.

The card is still pretty much high end, apart from the fact it doesn't have DX10 support.

I'm quite confident Crysis will look ace on this card. Dunno what you're complaining about. =P
