I probably only spent about £350 on mine. And your forgetting, my PS3 will last me for years and years without not being able to play any game released how it was supposed to.
Chris' 8800, in probably only a few months time, would need to be replaced again to be able to play a new game at full settings.

Let's do some Math. We want to play games, on full settings as this is how we assume they were designed to look, for six years, as this is about as long as a console would last.
Again we will assume that after 6 months, the current highest end graphics card will no longer to be able to play a newly released, demanding game such as Crysis at max settings. So say you buy a card in January, it would not be able to play a game released at the beginning of June at max settings - but would have to compromise.
Most top of the range graphics cards cost £350 (Source: eBuyer for a 8800GTX).

Over 6 year period:

Total cost of PS3 Gaming at Desired Level: £299
Total Cost of PC Gaming at Desired Level: £4200. Not including general hardware upgrades, e.g. Memory/CPU etc.

I'm not comparing the games.
I'm saying Console gaming is cheaper, and doesn't require you to constantly upgrade in order to play new games at the desired level.

I don;t think the minor advantage PC Gaming has in some games is worth the thousands of pounds to maintain it!!!
