Last week, Sony released its 2.40 firmware update for the Playstation 3 to much fanfare from owners. The 2.40 firmware brought a few new features to the table including Trophies and in-game XMB access. [Frontpage...]

However, Lempel made no mention about what's in store for PlayStation 3 owners who had their system bricked by the 2.40 update.
I could hazard a guess...

That's a pretty scary thing not to say alright... I pity the guy left holding the bag for this one over at Sony. I guess Sony figures RMA will handel what the update doesn't.

There's a claim here that they will replace bricked consoles:

I've DL'ed 241 and it's installing now. Don't really expected any problems... but that's pretty much where you were when this began hey Dan.":O}

May just be me... But when I try to turn off the DVD/Blue Ray controler and leave Folding @Home running, rather than just turn off the add on DVD controler it shuts down folding as well. I Used the Game controler... but a bit odd...

Is it a bug in the update Daniel or did it sort itself out?

I hate updating software, especially when I have a unit that does not give me any trouble. Maybe I will give this one another week or so just to make sure.

I had a similar problem. Powered off my controller, left F@H running. Came back 3 hours later, and as F@H was in screensaver mode, I turned my controller back on, only to find that it was in the same position as where I left it.

More bugs, perhaps?

Sorry I didn't come back to this... I was a bit confused to be honest... Just had another PS3 update yesterday. I can once more hit the PS3 button on the controller and only exit folding rather than shut it down....in other words it's back to where it was when I first started folding on it.

OK...I'm still confused! If I hit PS3 button while in Folding I exit with folding running and I can go else where in the system. It (folding) does seem to continue running in that situation. However it no longer turns off my control to do this ( One red led remains on)
So does this mean I must leave it connected to the system or run the batteries down in the controller? There use to be a short dialog as to weather to turn off the controller and exit Folding ( Leave it running or turn it off) that seems missing theses days...?
