| I don't game as much as I'd like-mostly because of lack of time. I really should, though, because fully legal and licensed games are only $10-$20 in this market. I picked up Crysis Warhead last week for THB 499 (about $15) and I can say this: it's the most impressive game I have seen this year, IMO. Many of you have forgotten more than I know about the the current offerings but this is a very, very good game. A plot-a character with personality-evil villain-and more eye candy than you can imagine. The reviewer was overly-critical. Check it out for yourself. BTW, there is a configuration file hack that will allow you to use the ultra-high settings that are only supposed to be unlocked with DX10(read:Vista) on your XP box with DX9. It really looks great and runs fine on those highest settings if you have a box that can run them, and it's a piece of piss to do the hack. It was a noticeable improvement for me over the maximum allowed DX9 settings. Here's the instructions, YMMV: How to configure very high settings for Crysis using DX9 and Windows XP

| Dan, according to the box it says it wants Vista or XP SP2. But who knows? 2000 isn't under support anymore, so why would they say it would work? You know MS. I'd try it if you can borrow a copy, if it works then buy it.

The only things I found were torrents & lord knows what you would be downloading if it's not officially released! ![]() This is where I usually download my demos & that's the Nvidia site. All they have is trailers & no demo release of it like they did with Crysis. http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_cr...head_home.html

| Dan, why not set up in dual-boot with your Linux flavor so you can game when you want?

| How Awkward. Here I am in the company of what I consider to be good men, whom I feel happy to associate with and share the passing of time. Yet I find myself in opposition. Nor is it an all- together easy opposition to explain. Being a hermit, I am quite rightfully poor. But I could swing XP or Vista or both If my circumstances required it. Yet when a man withdraws from life he does not thereby earn the right to sit back and merely idly criticize those conditions or institutions or current public morays that contributed to his withdrawal. In my personal view, as it is the view of the tradition I follow, there remains an obligation to address within oneself all that one has branded as unworthy in others. This I attempt to do with wildly varying results MS is evil. I'm not going into a long random list of crimes committed in a shameless and guilty world. MS is a direct source of the evil we all must deal with in our daily lives. Everything they do lessens freedom or attempts to or they don't do it... not even for money. Look at the money they have thrown away in their attempts to control you. It is my belief that if enough people continue to support MS for long enough... one day, maybe tomorrow, maybe yesterday, they will control you. There are people here who, like myself, did not make this world, they are simply struggling to live in it. The dictates of their professions require that they use MS products to earn their daily bread. Neither I nor Christ himself can find anything wrong with that. Please note that I have said not one word about MS competence. For the sake of understanding my position, let us assume that every dream MS ever had for Vista is a shining reality. Thomas Jefferson was a brilliant man, but I turn away from that brilliance in deepest sorrow, Thomas Jefferson betrayed all that is worth preserving between men when Thomas Jefferson took it upon himself to own men. Some misdeeds cannot be overlooked for the sake of accomplishment. But here, now, in this thread, we are talking about recreation. I have said that men sometimes must deal with this world on it's own terms in order to live and work toward a better tomorrow. Sometimes they must also be able to hold themselves aloof and avoid any contact or participation. Once Fedora became viable as a desktop it became immoral in a very real and deeply felt sense for me to spend one more dime in support of MS. And very immoral indeed to do so for recreation.... I realize this view is not shared by many. Most think they need never give up anything ... and mostly don't... willingly......welcome to planet Earth! LOL I continue to use 200o pro because I paid for it, I don't phone home and it ticks Bill off. I have a PS3. I have the games that were created in and run natively in Linux. Perhaps as more people come into the light I'll have more companions to play with! LOL

| I am deeply moved by your fervor toward MS. I also admire your steadfastness. Never to waiver. Not even for the sake of recreation. I applaud you fine Sir.

| BTW, it would load the newest drivers ( the Physics in Control panel wouldn't open, missing dlls, that could easily have been there) The game installed successfully according to the game, but couldn't run, Missing dlls. Ms has successfully sabotaged the OS they sold me. I mention this as they are sabotaging XP as we type.

| I've got this game running fine on my Win XP system, CPU is just a single-core AMD @ 2.3 Ghz, 2GB RAM and an 8800 GTX. Res is 1920 x 1200. Mostly runs smooth, a bit juddery when they're is a lot of action, but perfectly playable.

| Dan; You might want to look into Cedega: TransGaming Inc. There is a ton of information on it on the web. I don't know a lot about it but I do know that it is a compatibility layer based on the old WINEX that can play many, many current games written for Windows in a Linux environment. It isn't free, though, although I believe it is reasonable.

| dsio and I tried to get it working on my machine, never could, not much response in there forums, dsio asked a question or two and went weeks unnoticed. dsio WAS able to do better on his machine where he was "Hands on" rather than guiding me in Seattle from Australia...I finally just gave up my subscription...Again Thank you for you efforts on my behalf! ":O}

| It will not run on the 2000 install? There may be some dll files we can copy from XP to get it to work. It should be right at home on 2000 since it is practically the same os.
