Stephen Kamizuru (Blog) - September 24, 2008 12:15 PM

According to an Ars Technica article, PlayStation 3 owners who download video through the PlayStation Network Video Store are allowed one official download, and if necessary, one additional download after contacting customer service.

Essentially this is a movie rental service, so you wouldn't expect to be able to download a movie multiple times.

It's not yet available in the UK. But I think the prices are something like...

Rental $2.99 (SD) and $4.50 (HD). Seems reasonable to me.

Purchase $1.99 for one episode of a TV show and $9.99 for an SD movie. Who would want to buy videos this way, anyhow? For one, your hard drive would be full in no time. Secondly, if you had a hard drive failure, would you really want to download your entire video collection again? Would take forever.

Back-ups - you're not permitted to back-up any movie, regardless of what form it came in.

What I'd like to see are Blu-ray movies on disc which don't cost an arm and a leg.

Netflix,

Netflix Online Movie Rentals - Rent DVDs, Classic Films to DVD New Releases

Were I renting movies, this is the way I'd go. Used them before, great service and good selection. Don't know if you have anything simalar in the UK?

We do, but they don't deliver to islands. So, no use to me.

I'd use a rental subscription service, but what size is a full 1080p HD movie? One download and I'd be up against my monthly cap.

Ouch! A whole big bunch of stuff is backing up and waiting for bandwidth to bring it to life.

How many people on your island Dan...seems like you might have an in there!

Here's my thinking on this...

A Dinner and a movie has had a very long run.... Maybe it's time for an interprizing young man to introduce ...you guessed it!

A Movie and a Crap!
