I bet you all knew I was going to comment on this post...

Some interesting games on that list. A few are a complete waste of time and others are older but still entertaining.

Quake Live: never played it, but I'll always vouch for a good fast-playing deathmatch game. Never meant to be an epic storybased game, but good arcade action.

Beneath a Steel Sky: I have it and never played it, but I keep seeing good reviews about it. I have the original DOS version but looks like you can play it in ScummVM program. I'll have to check this out...

Flight Gear: Looks like a great alternative to Microsoft Flight and its totally open source. You can make your own models or locations and then submit them to the developers (I think).

Vindicus: Looks great on the graphics side and its an Action RPG. There is a registration required, but looks fun and engaging.

Moonbase Alpha: A very interesting concept and created by NASA themselves. Moonbase spawns a bit of curiosity and has some pretty realistic graphics. I'll have to check this one out

Sarien.net: What a cool deal, several Old School fantasy/adventure games available online for free. This is a must-have!

Minecraft Classic: I have to admit, I still havn't played Minecraft. I have heard so much and in all honesty... the cubes really annoy me. I have played a few old DOS games with crappy graphics, so its not an excuse. I just need to try it out.

Marathon Trilogy: Finally the original MAC First Person Shooter is totally free! I'm not a huge fan of Marathon or Halo, but since its free and I'm a collector, its mine!

Team Fortress 2: I still don't understand why TF2 is free? What an amazing game... they could be making more bucks off us deathmatch gamers! But since it is free, check it out! Requires steam but extreme fun with great classes and interesting game modes. I originally played it on my linux server but after updates, it stopped working. I updated again and again and again, but no go... so I gave up on this one.

Wing Commander Saga: This one is a HUGE download, but so many great screenshots and a huge epic story! I'll be checking this one out one day and make use of my Microsoft Sidewinder force feedback joystick.

Here's another one I am downloading now...
StarForge - Free Online Game - F2P

Free to play, and allows you to edit maps in a similar way to Minecraft.

There's also a bit torrent here:

I have been watching Starforge for a while on Moddb.com.
Havn't actually downloaded it and tried it, but the graphics look GREAT!
Thanks for the reminder. If you want to watch their development, moddb.com is a great place

I tried it out.

It's very much alpha, but what they've done seems to work OK.

It has potential if they finish it.

Then I'm going to wait until they produce more content and then will see what it has to offer.

Its funny you said that because thats exactly what I did!
I'm doing full-time IT for a large media company.
I have learned soooooooooo much in the last 4 months with my hands on computers every day.

I am currently "on hold" with game design.
I was really excited about making 3D models and stuff, but in the last 8 months my family has short-sale our townhouse, moved into a rental and I have been working in a new industry.

I actually do have time to create some 3D models, but I'm having fun on my break playing with my girls and playing video games.

I'm playing Just Cause 2 right now and loving it!

Your absolutely right, in these times your fortunate to be where you can grow into where you want to be....and then there's those little girls who think you hung the moon, and you pretty much did for them.

but never stop looking ahead, they say that's where the future lies...":O}

I get 'em when they're 1/2 price or better, doesn't really matter at all as I play alone off line, so for me it's Dead space 2 right now, Also Battlefield and another I can't rtemember.

But I still listed one more game than you did!

( You can see why I play alone...":O}

I tried playing Dead Space once and I am confident I wouldn't try it again. I might get a sudden heart attack plus get confined to a mental hospital due to constant screaming. It was a great game though.

I totally agree!
Was very cool and I got less "jumpy" as I played it more.
But, I don't think I'll be playing it again.
Dead Space 2 looks even more gruesome!

What I really liked was the ability to customize your armor, weapons, health, etc.
The story was pretty cool too. Reminded me of Event Horizon
