Combat Flight Simulator 2 and XP/2k

Ok, I'm at a total loss here. I used to be able to run Combat Flight Sim 2 on my Abit KT7A+ board with a 1ghz tbird.

I tried installing it on my new box, (specs below), and it installs, starts to load, and then just hangs -- Not Responding.

I've tried it at stock fsb, on both 2K Pro and XP Pro, and the same thing happens all the time. Tried setting my screen res to 16 bit, no help.

I sorta liked that game, it was fun flying against live pilots, but I can't seem to get it to work.

Unreal T, Quake, Counterstrike/HalfLife, and Nascar 2000 work perfectly. Go figure.

I'm wondering if it's just a bad CD, however it worked, like I say, on my other box just fine.

Any ideas?

Have you tried that patch that claims "some directx8 games won't run with AMD chips..." ??? (I still dunno if I believe this)

Oh, yeah. Been there, d/l and installed that. hehe..
Ah, well, guess there won't be no dogfightin' on this box. dang.

Did you try reinstalling all your drivers in this order? :

1 - Chipset/motherboard drivers
2 - Directx
3 - AMD/directx fix
4 - Sound
5 - Video

Let's see... I wasn't aware you could do a 'reinstall' of directx on an XP system.

As for having to reinstall all those things just to get one game to *maybe* work, I'd rather not. Especially since ALL my other games are playing just perfectly. (I kicked Quake butt last night.. hehe)

Ah, well. I'll just live without CFS, no biggie. I'm sorta not into fixing something if it ain't broke, and I'm not really sure the system is 'broken', like I say, all else works fine.

I was just fishin' to see if anyone else had this particular problem with a direct fix.

I think all the files you would need are on aoafiles.

You're right about it not being a big deal, but it might not be limited to just this one game... only time will tell...

These are pretty universal windows and 3d application troubleshooting steps (the first thing I do when having serious 3d issues is to reinstall the drivers in that order).

just outta curiosty, (if you get some time and get bored or something), why do you install the drivers in that particular order?
