Question Samsung PC2700 DDR ?

Hi all

My local supplier has just got a shipment of Samsung PC2700 DDR RAM and I was wondering if anyone knows if its a good overclocker.

I've currently got 2 sticks of 256MB PC2100 Crucial that runs at 166FSB all day long. Do you think the Samsung will go much furhter than the stock settings.

Also are there different types of Samsung PC2700 DDR? (revisions etc)

TIA
Enigma.

My samsung PC2700 DDR does 172 MHz FSB happily. I'm pretty sure it can go way higher though. I've heard about 200+ MHz with overvolting.

Sounds like a winner then

I'll see if I can 'loan' some to test.

Samsung looks better every day

Sorry Spyder, my circle of friends use 'loan' as an expression. Borrow emplies that we have to return it after a while.. Loan generally means I get to keep it

There are differnt chops.

I think CB3 on samsung original PCB is the hot ticket.

Samsung on 3rd party PCB can bit a mixed bag.

I just got my samsung pc2700. currently only at 150FSB but rock stable at stock voltage with just about adequate cooling (tho i am on an xp1600 AGOIA Y which is currently cruising at 1.58. Aiming for 1.8 by the end of it all though...right before the chip hits the speed of light and leaves a smouldering hole in my 3 foot brick wall [they build houses properly in england] just in time to upload a 30k 3dmark score....

I could only get my 256 MB stick to go to FAST settings at stock voltages and even up to 2.9 Vdimm. I've increased the Vdimm to 3.0V and I can run at Turbo now. :-D
Any idea how long I've got till things turn pear shaped and I start to harm the memory at these voltages? Is there any truth in the burning in theory?

If extra cooling precedes overclocking and or over-volting, the life span of the component isn't shortened as much as the other(lazy) way around. The present price of DDR gives me pause, yet that's just my opinion.

Aha! There may be some truth in it. I ran SiS Sandra Burn in Wizard for 24Hrs with 3.0Vdimm. My earler highest 3DMark 2k1 score was 11966,at FAST settings, as I could not get into Windows at anything higher. I've since lowered the Vdimm to 2.9V, still at Turbo settings and my new bench is 12,244! w00t!
Now to see how low I can get the Vdimm whilst keeping things stable.

Ya, make sure they're CTL sticks. Those are the crazy overclockers.

i little of my findings.
i have both sticks just differant sizes.

corsiar 2100 128mb
166@2.8vdimm 2.0-2-2-5 t1
205@2.8vdimm 2.5-3-3-6 t2

samsung 2700 512mb
182@2.8vdimm 2.0-2-2-5 t1
190@2.8vdimm 2.5-3-3-6 t2

the samsung wasnt burnt in much and i stopped testing further 190 as i added the 2100 in the mobo also, running both sticks now.
197@2.8vdimm 2.5-3-3-6 t2 is what im currently running.only at 1867 mhz as when i put it at 2ghz as the cpu will run that.but did some lockups.only burning in a few hours.
