Logitech mouse

My mom brought home a Logitech cordless optical mouse from her office that "never worked right" I assumed it was some simple problem but I cant figure it out. The problem is that the mouse will install and the buttons will work, but the curser will only move around 5 pixels then stop. I am at a complete loss, I've tried just about everything. Logitech is no help, they seem to think its a problem with my computer (even though it has been tried on 4 seperate computers running windows 98, ME, XP small bussiness, and XP Pro. Anybody have any ideas, if not its no big deal since they just gave it to me, but I'd like to make use of it replacing my ball mouse with no scroll wheel.
God's got this all wrong. We are not special. We are not crap or trash either. We just are, and what happens just happens.
And God says, "No, that's not right."
Yeah. Well. Whatever. You can't teach God anything. -Tyler Durden
