| The odd thing is ALL the drives made after these have 3 YEAR warranties! My company purchased a ton of these.. and have purchased 100s of IBM drives in the past.. grr The rma guy said that warranties would be upheld for drives purchased before November 15th of 2002.. heh we bought them March of this year grr.. *edit* Daniel I believe my drives are the ones you are talking about.. the ones we were quoted to buy as they were the same were the 80gb 120gxp's which DO have the 3 year warranty (I have the extra special 82.3gb ones /rolls eyes lol).. heads are going to roll once I get a hold of the original purchase order for me.. |

| I've switched to the 8mb cache version of the Western Digital drives in the machines I build for sale - they have a three-year warranty. The current difference in price from the 2mb version is only $3.50 for the 40gb at NewEgg, which would be well worth it for the extra two-years of warranty even if they weren't higher performance drives.

| Most agreedocioudilaiscious smidgley the Special Edition WD drives at that price are a good insurance on future reliability. I'm surprised they can up the warranty on SATA drives. I would have thought they would have proceeded (manufacturers) to cement their new lean warranty practices.

| Raptors have a 5 year warranty.. but hell for the cost I'd want them to have 5 year warranties lol... The 7200rpm Maxtors have 3 year.. Seagates only 1.. All other Western Digital SATAs have 3 years... That's for the SATA drives.. all IDE drives seem to have the 1 year.. that really sucks heh. |

| I should have made it a little clearer perhaps! For myself, SATA doesn't offer anything over SCSI. Quite the converse instead. In terms of performance, SATA drives (other than the WD Raptor) run the same performance as their PATA equivs. Couple that with the difficulties that people have been having with SATA, and I come to the conclusion that SATA isn't quite ready.
