Too Much Cooling?

This is a simple question, but I'm unsure of the answer. How cold can I run my system w/o risk. The reason I ask is that my computer is in an unheated room (Don't Ask!!!) now in IL. it's dropping down into the mid-teens at night. I realize this isn't going to hurt my CPU, GPU, etc. buy what about my monitor, HDs or fans. I've never though much of the opertation temp ranges that manufacturers supply w/ electronics. Am at any kind of risk here. Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I pump 15F air into my case with the only problem I notice being condensation. Not sure if I'm killing any other components, but I sure hope not!

Glad I'm not the only one. And my mistake, I know everyone here is on the C. tip. I should amend that ambient room temp to about -10C

it can never be to cold
if you are getting condensation building up, then you may have to worry a little.... But dont fear, watercoolers have had to deal with condensation for a long timenow, so....
Read a few articles on how watercooled systems tackled the condensation problem and you should be fine

Very Cool (weak pun)

This sounds good as I've been keeping an eye out for condensation and it hasn't been much of a problem. I'll take some extra precautions just in case. I certainly haven't been having any problems w/ my CPU temp

Semiconductors are designed to operate down to -40C.

Most hard disks are designed to operate down to about 5C. Below that you run the risk that the lubricants used in the drive start to become too viscous to lubricate properly.

Papst fans typically are fine up to about -20C, but there are some that won't operate very well below 0C.

As for your monitor - check the manufacturers specs!

what aidain says sounds right to me, ive heard of people using liquid nitrogen cooling, but aparantly it destroys the CPU in a couple weeks........ -10 should be ok for most of it i would think. but cant be much fun using the PC in a room that cold! coldest ive gone for our cause was 6 celsius! and then my fingers were almost entirely numb! but i did get core temp of about 17 celsius idle!

I think these are correct, but as a general rule it's "safer" to run electronic devices cold than warm.

Yep, that some pretty chilly computing. Fortunately, it's basically a file server for my home. I don't have to sit in front of it because Terminal Services Kicks A. I'd also like to once again point out that this forum is full of the people not only willing to help, but who help w/ excellent info. This forum rocks! Thanks for the input all!!!

I guess to play it safe, I'll move this box into my "livable" living area. I'll have to play electrician this weekend, which isn't the most fun I can think of, but it's overdue anyway. Too many power drains, not enough sources. right now if I try to run two machines and my home theater on the same circuit, my world becomes dark.
