DVD Play Back Problems

Recently my 16xDVD drive started acting up. I tryed several different DVD's so i know thats not the problem. Also i have used different programs to play them, Power DVD, Windows Media Player, and Interactual Player, they all do basically the same thing, when i put the DVD in it loads up fine, and the FBI warning screen is fine, but when the intro screen comes on the sound and video both skip and pop (hard to explain). I think i tried just about everything i can think of, New ATi drivers, reinstalled my sound card driver, uninstalled the actual DVD drive, turned off all tasks running other than the player, used spybot, ad aware, defraged my HDD, cleared out cookies, i mean just about everything. One thing i did notice , when i disabled the sound card and played it , it seemed to run fine (the video), but as soon as i enabled it again , same thing. Anyone know what the problem is?

I had a customer of mine that had a laptop that had a DVD player in it. He brought it in to play me a DVD once. So we popped in the DVD and started to watch it but it would stall alot and the sound would pop (just like yours did)

So I killed the DVD program that was running and checked to see what's going on in his task manager (win2000) seems he had something like 46 services running and about 9 of those were viruses all fighting for cpu time. After I killed a few tasks (errr more like 15 of them) things started to work a little better and fasters.

We jumped on the web and went to www.trendmicro.com for there free online virus scanner. Turns out he had about 27 viruses and about 400+ infected files. TM couldn't remove them all so I had to manually go in and get rid of a few.

After that, we could watch the DVD. I noticed that you haven't checked for viruses. Maybe give that a shot?

Seems a little "high" to me. I'm not sure what IS needed and what is not needed. Did you also goto www.trendmicro.com? Two virus scanners are better than one.
