PC Power&Cooling PS's. Are they[i]really[/] rebadged..

Years ago, a trustworthy old salt posted that PC Power&Cooling's power supplies were rebadged Zippy-Emacs. I must admit, they looked(pics on the Web) mighty similar at the time. I could find no Stateside retailer for Zippy-Emacs PS's. It was the manufacturer in Taiwan, period. One PS? Seriously doubt it!

Mebbe two years ago, a fairly trustworthy source insisted that PC Power&Cooling's PS's were rebadged SPI Sparkle's. This is easier to dispute. While the SPI Sparkle 350W I bought recently is a nice, heavy and solid PS, it doesn't look like a PC P&C PS in a side-by-side comparison. Nor is its voltage regulation as tight as a 300W PC P&C PS's.

Opinions gladly solicited. If anyone knows how to buy Zippy-Emacs PS's in the US(in lots of less than 100)please share this information. Thanks.

Thank you very much, Jen. It appears that PC Power&Cooling's 400W model is made by Zippy-Emacs. Mystery somewhat solved!

Thanks again!

How do you know they are? I cen't get to the other page at the moment, but based on looks? Are the Zippy-Emacs cheaper than the PC Power and Cooling models, if so how much?

my price for a zippy powersupply 450 watt was 105 dollars from the manufacturer. since i am not a dealer i couldnt buy from the manufacturer

concerning is the zppy-emacs the same powersupply pcpower and cooling uses that to me remains a mystery. i talked to Net Express and they said that was what pcpower and cooling was useing. the only way i would know for certain is have a zippy-emac and compare it to a 425 watter and 450 watt pcpower and cooling powersupplies i have here.

Cloasters i bought a pcpower and cooling simply cause of warrantty and i wasnt able to buy directly from manufacturer .

The specs for PC P&C's 400W PS and the Zippy-Emacs 400W PS appear to be identical. I think they are one and the same. Alas, I couldn't swear to this in court.

Maybe PC P&C's 400W comes with a different fan. I also don't know if the warranty from Net Express matches the 3-year one from PC Power&Cooling. I didn't AB the price, either. Most of the PS's offered by Net Express are serious professional grade PS's. With very serious price tags!

cloasters the warrantty information i was given was 1 year on the zippy-emac powersupply. and yes i do agree thier price is higher than i feel it should be. if they want to sell them they should lower thier price .

You never know what business philosophy hides behind the storefront. Some etailers don't want to sell, sell, sell. One would think that this is a possibility with Net Express. Or maybe their focus is on selling the $600 and up PS's they offer.

PC Power&Cooling may sell many <$200 PS's, and few $600 ones. I dunno.

There are some retailers locally who don't seem to have even one customer for a decade or more. Do ya think they serve a different purpose than they appear to?

While I know PCP & C used to sell PSUs manufactured by others this is not the case now. A couple of weeks ago I had a long talk with a vice president of PCP & C. Much of what I learned is not for publication. I can tell you that from what I learned and my experience with the Turbo Cool 450 ATX, I'm sticking with PCP & C unless a PSU that is proven to be a lot better comes on the market.

I'd much prefer to have an all PC P&C stable. Alas, while this was true for years, fiduciary constraints mandated the purchase of a lesser quality power supply. Oh, the shame and degradation!

If I could find a good source for all the components, I'd just roll my own ATX PSU . . . .
