Really? They have been around for, oh, I dunno, about 4-6 months, if not longer. It just simplifies the connection and cables, but there is not much gain in burning or reading speed, as we are at about the max for how fast a cd can spin. If you go to PowerLabs website, they've got video's of kid spinning disks with a dremel. they never get to the max speed of the dremel before they fly off. A normal player does not grab a cd in the same way, so it can go faster, but how often to you find a cd that you can burn at 52x? I think they explode at that speed.

Theoretically, this could make dvd burnign faster, but i think that the format will change before we see any benefit from that, probably due to limitations in spin speed, once again.
