Athlon 64 MOBILE are they good I got a AMD AthlonXP-M 2600+ and it very good for over clocking , but i was wondering if the Athlon 64 MOBILE chips are as good for the overclocking , or generally would a 3500+ Athlon 64 mobile , be as good as an ordinary 3500+ athlon 64 chip ????

Yea, but with turion there are meant to be some S939 dual channel / dual core desktop replacement laptops around soon. Mobile A64 chips are really bad value at the moment though. The 2600+'s appeal was partly its overclocking prowess, but also its extreme value, and that is just lacking in the A64. The other problem is cool'n'quiet, which has a slightly different implementation on the mobile chips (they market it as cool'n'quiet powernow! or some rot) now this is also on the desktops to a degree, but I have read that its implemented at a hardware level on the mobiles, independent of the motherboard or settings, which could put a real damper on OCing.

Yeah S754 is only single channel, so a S939 chip is about inline performance wise with a S754 chip clocked 200mhz faster Plus there are very few future plans for S754, the sempron range will probably get a couple of new versions, and there will be mobile dual cores but other than that it's dead. Socket939 doesn't appear to have a long future either with ddr2 ready Socket M2 planned, but it will at least get dual cores probably up to 3ghz in the not too distant future |

mobile 754's are the best you can get right now for 754, as they feature clawhammer cores, which don't mind high htt's, never mind having the 1mb of L2 cache. the mobiles are averaging 2.7-2.8ghz under really good water, and most will do an easy 2.6 on air. the attractiveneess is still there in the mobile platform as there was with the skt A's, however, just as with the skt a's, make sure to get a mobile with a 35w-40w power rating, which can only be had in 2800+/3000+, and there is also a 3700+(90nm clawhammer/relabelled as turion/newark) which clocks exceptionally well...on par with the sandiego cores. Mobile 939 CPU's should be around at the end of the year.
