What kind of motherboard do you have? |
| ||||
You can get SCA to SCSI adapters for about $5 each, or thereabouts. Just make sure you get the right adapter (50 or 68-pin) for your cable. I'm guessing you probably have a mobo that uses wide SCSI (68-pin). Something like this would work. Dealing on E-Bay always has an element of risk, but I've dealt successfully with this vendor on several occasions. Just remember, you pays your money, you takes your chances. If you prefer not to buy through E-Bay, then my recommendation would be these people. Call them up, tell them what you want, and they can fix you right up. Costs more, but their stuff is top drawer. |

BTW, I forgot to mention that those E-Bay adapters are U2-SCSI (also refered to as SCSI-III). If your mobo and drives are Ultra-160 or Ultra-320, those adapters probably will not work. In that case, you'll need to go to TMC. |

Calgar, here's a guy i've used before. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...767853410&rd=1 £4.50 total. Not too bad. I had the same problem as you, new drives, old connectors in the server. The drives were both U320 and worked fine with this adapter. |

Just have a poke around on eBay then, i'm sure you'll find some cheaper. Maybe the seller gizmo recommended ships to the UK? |

I have a couple of SCA adaptors bought for an experiment with SCSI drives a few years ago. TBH, I wouldn't buy SCSI drives that need an adaptor again. Yes, they are less expensive. However, they are made for use in a five bay rack with the hot swap feature. Personally, I hot swap nothing! The SCA adaptors have a bad reputation for falling off of the drives and mine were $16 each, if I remember right. I suggest using tie-wraps aka cable ties or another "permanent" method to help keep the adaptors in place.
