Corsair Value Select -CAS3 2gig

I have to admit, I was crossing my fingers on this one.
My HyperX PC3200 was running dual channel 240fsb 2.5-3-3-6 happily for some time... Unfortunately, 1 gig just didn't seem like enough.

I bit the bullet and ordered Corsair Value Select 2gig PC3200, figuring I could run asynch if necessary. Needless to say I am a bit surprised.

I kept running mem test, expecting it to fail as I bumped up fsb... It failed CAS2.0 pretty quickly, no surprise.

At 2.5v 2.5-3-3-7, it passed all the way up to 230FSB.
235 took 2.6v.
240 took 2.7v.... whoaa...

Not bad for the cheapest 2gig memory I could get my hands on. As I type this, I'm doing stability testing in windows... So far so good.

Are the chips labelled with corsairs name? is there a BP808A on the corner of the pcb, by the SPD rom?IF you can say yes to that, those are most likely BH-5.

They said Corsair VS on them pretty clearly... not sure about the rest. Lemme stick my head in....

EDIT: In big letters, it says Value Select on them... in small letters 64M....
Can't make out the rest. They don't behave like BH5 tho... Even under 200fsb, they couldn't do cas2.0. I got one reboot, not sure if it is the memory or heat, but I vacuumed a bit and it seems good at 240fsb 2.5-3-3-7 w/ 2.70v. No need to push harder since my P4 is topped out.

That's a decent price for 2 gigs. sounds like ch5 stuff, steve. There are distinctive markings...do they look like either of these?:

Well, brainpower pcb. No 2-3-2 action? SPD programmed for 2.5-3-3-7, correct?

Sorry for the grilling, but it's good to get comfimation as to what's out there right now.

There should be 2 concentric circles in the middle of the die, and one small dot on the bottom right, as well as 2 metal tabs sticking out of either end of the IC.

Alot of people don't remember back in 2002 when Winbond just sold IC's to infineon, and DDR really took off. Back then, Kingston was THE major memory supplier to OEM's like HP, Compaq, and DELL. Infineon could not supply Kingston with enough chips, and Kingston ended up getting some direct from WInbond, and you can imagine what the lower price ended up doing.

Infineon got these chips back then at a decent price, and recently dumped them on the market, when the transition away from DDR was annouced by both AMD and intel. Knowing what these chips were capable of doing, buying them as DDR333, and buying them when DDR400 was really what everybody wanted, has made them a bit of money. I wonder when they'll run out...it should be soon tho, if the 1gb modules are out now.

Sorry, you can see better with the pic that what I can with the naked eye. SPD is 3.0-3-3-8 at 200. When I was testing under 200, I recall it was like 2.5-3-3-7 for 166mhz. Odd that CPUz doesn't show it:

Dumb question coming up....will going from 512MB to 1GB be very noticeable? I'm tempted to get some Twinmos Speed memory, 1GB will cost about £82, or actually some Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2PT TwinX for the same price? The TwinMos has BH-5 modules though....Which?

well, doubling your ram is noticeable for a short while after installing, then windows actually realises it should perform better and goes just as slow as before! (just kidding) But, yeah, you should notice quite a big difference.

If you've got some time, Steve, try 2.5-2-2-7

I doubt I can tonight. Since it wouldn't do 2.0-3-3-7 even at 190, I am skeptical at 240. I'll try anything once tho.

BTW, 2gig is definitely better for what I do... I run 2 instances of folding, big WUs (300megs a piece), while running a video recompression, and burning a DVD at the same time... I know I'm asking for trouble.
