what the bloody does it look like and how would it work? there's not much info about it in the manual. i'm a bit confused here.

I've not seen it, but from what I understand of the purpose of the thing (that it is provided with the board so that you can monitor the temp of an external device like a hard drive or what-have-you) I would guess that it will look like a little piece of mylar tape, probably yellowish or orangish in color, about 1 cm or so long and about half that wide, with a pair of wires coming out of it.
