SATA RAID performance?

Just out of curiosity how much faster would a pair of 80GB WD Caviar SATA drives in a striping array be compared to just one 160GB partitioned WD Caviar SE ATA100 disc drive?

As the drives are not of the highest capacity I have the existing 160GB drive for backups.

You'll see a noticeable speed improvement, so I've been lead to believe.

How often you get to appreciate that performance will depend on what you use the machine for.

For me personally, there would be no great benefit to have striping.

It was originally intended for use on servers which have 100% activity on their drives all day long.

I did a little reading at Anandtech and it seems the increased performance isn't really worth the extra cost.

Save your money, and buy a single raptor, i know most people will disagree but i can only say from what i notice, which was improved loading times. As for a raid setup, unless you want great PC mark scores dont bother.
