Exclamation Code 10

Following on from my previous thread in the graphcas and sound cards section, I need to know about 'Code 10' with my AGP Voodoo 3 3000. When i use this card (the only AGP card i can test my system with), windows boots perfectly and looks fine but in properties in device manager, it says 'This device cannot start (Code 10)'. My motherboard is the syntax SV266A. I need to know whether this problem is going to stop me being able to upgrade to a 6200A (getting one soon, possibly tomorrow). If it's the AGP slot that's not working correctly, then i don't want to be buying a new card and not being able to use it. If it's just the voodoo 3 itself, then fine, it's no major loss but if it's the actual AGP port, then i have problems. I want to be able to use drivers for the 6200A as it can give some great speed and effects if put to the right use. I don't want any discussion about the new card, just about what the 'code 10' problem could be. I have tried lots of things, CMOS resets, reinstalling drivers, everything but i still get 'code 10' every time. I'm considering doing a XP repair install to see if that works. This problem only started after i repaired XP a few weeks ago though and i've been told that it's a config problem by dsio but i just don't know where to start. It's not a bios option as i've tried all the different settings relating to AGP, IRQ's and VGA but still 'Code 10' in device properties in device manager.

If anyone can solve this problem, i'll give them a full version of the next version of Re-volt a month before anyone else (it's going to be released in october) and i'll eat my hat (if i had one).

Thanks,
Scott Pritchard.

**Have sufficient backups before playing with the registry**

See if you have this key in your registry for 'upperfilters' and 'lowerfilters'
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\
{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318)
If so export it to a backup directory and then delete the two filter keys listed above, then reboot.

I claim nothing for this tweak, be sure to back up!!!

Right, backed them up and deleted them from the registry. Still got to reboot but gonna do that now. It was something to do with CD/DVD drives that particular registry key though. Still worth a try i guess.

Right, the registry edit hasn't worked. I think i've located the ones for the voodoo though:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0001
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Class\{4D36E968-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}\0002

On both of them, on the next child key, it's got a value called 'VGACompatible' and both are set at 0. Could that be the problem?

Right, i've just run rivatuner and found out something. Here's what it says about 'Display adapter information:

$0000000000 Description :
$0000000001 Vendor ID : 0000 (unknown)
$0000000002 Device ID : 0000
$0000000003 Location : bus 0, device 0, function 0
$0000000004 Bus type : AGP revision 2.0
$0000000005 AGP status : disabled
$0000000009 Base address 0 : none
$000000000a Base address 1 : none
$000000000b Base address 2 : none
$000000000c Base address 3 : none
$000000000d Base address 4 : none
$000000000e Base address 5 : none

That shows that AGP is disabled! So how do i re-enable it?

Have a look in 'Services' in the 'Administrative tools', under the control panel.

Also could you post a screenie of the MB, and video card properties from the device manager

Right, solved it! Via 4-in-1drivers is what i need. I'm going to download them, install, if needed, repair windows again, reboot and start enjoying the last days of my voodoo's life before i upgrade!

Thanks all for trying.
