Random Memory Speed Question

Ok so im throwin together a computer for my dad with all the spare parts around the house...no im not buying ANYTHING....we have lots of random memory, some is kingston some is corsair...

is it better to run MORE memory at a lower clock, or less memory at a higher clock???....heres the main situation and question....if i put in 2 corsair in slot a1 and b1 and a kingston in slot a2 it will run at 400mhz for 1.5 gig of mem, but if i put the other kingston in it will go to 320 and not accept 400 at 2 gig....soooo what should i do, wats best and wats faster for the comp, 1.5 gig at 400, or 2 gig at 320 mhz??? i really dont feel like runnin 20 benchmarks, jus tell me what you guys would speculate to be quicker...thanks

depends on the usage..general surfing, etc, 1gb is fine. High-end gaming and video-sound editing need more ram, but will manage without.

Over 1 gig, most general use doesn't see much of a gain. The higher speed only gets a slight boost to performance...

In the end, the difference in performance will not be discernable unless the apps are huge memory hogs. I'd say 1.5ghz at 400mhz is slightly better.
