I tend to find using toner with laser printers means they carry on working - ink just tends to spill everywhere

I are also not clear on where the cost divide between a 1200x600 bpi and a "hi-fi" laser printer is. Are there lasers that do better than 1200x600? Inkjets have amazingly high resolution nowadays, are there color lasers that even approach their capability--that don't cost thousands?

Laser or inkjet?
Laser takes TONER
Inkjet takes.... Ink

I'll look into it and get back to ya.

I already have a good inkjet photo printer.

I need a colour laser for printing things like fliers and price lists. The quality of any photos , such as product images, doesn't have to be all that good.

Inkjet refills start to get too expensive! Plus, the ink runs when the paper gets wet.

Get your ink from the computer show if you can. I get ink carts at the show for about $5 each. If not, tell me the model of your inkjet and I'll pick some up for you. Toner will look alot better, but what % fill are you going to use on the page? I'm sure your toner cart will empty pretty quick with alot of pix and 20% coverage.

Robbie: Random ink from random suppliers have different colour characteristics. I find that attempting to use different inks puts calibration out and tends to lead to colour casts.

Probably would be about 20% coverage.

Has to be toner, not ink. My customers are on building sites. Things get very wet when it rains as does our van when I open the door in heavy rain.

At the moment, I am having to laminate ink jet prints. So that they are waterproof.

there are no good cheap laser colour printers. Look in the range of $500+, for decent speed and network capabilities. Going USB, tho can drop that price down a fair bit, but not that much.

LoL.

Doesn't someone here sell printers?

By cheap, I mean $500 or so. In other words I don't have $10K to spend on one.

oh heck no!

Just sold a few Brother machines the other day. although i don't like the brand myself, they did offer a decent print at a decent price...just look at office printers, because that's really what you need. Depends truly on what your print demands are, ykwim?

$200 will get a 23ppm standalone from various companies, although i think you need a bit more than that.

We (err I) sell color laser printers. It's something the managers had us do.

How about this one?
http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=239016

My gripes would be that 64 MB could be a bit inadequate. No LAN interface.

As low-end colour lasers don't do better than the 600x600 dpi that the low end black lasers do, why be extravagant? In the past, H-P inkjet color refills were the most expensive of all, AFAIK. I doubt that their colour toner refills are a great bargain.
Go black for half as much money. Prints from black lasers sure don't run in the rain.

600dpi is probably enough. I need colour so that I can print my logo in colour and not have to pay a print shop to do that.

You're right about the refills, I won't be ordering a printer until I know how much the toner will cost me.

I see these new LED printers are higher resolution, but I have never seen one in action.

Not to be annoying, but does your company logo have to be in color? Or does your ego demand colour? Eep, tough question, sorry! It's just that black is simpler and the toner refills will be less expensive.
