New Computer Parts List

Hey everyone. I'm going to be ordering a bunch of computer parts from newegg at this same time next month, and i want to do some planning, to see what is the best. So, can someone with a lot of experience in building computers read the links and see if my parts are all compatible with each other? I'm sure they are, but I want to make sure. My budget is also around 1,000 dollars, give or take 100 dollars.

Case: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16811196020

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103928

Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131538

Processor: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819116198

Hard Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822152022

Memory (2x): http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227059

Video Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814125193

Optical Drive: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16827131257

Sound Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16829102176

Firewire Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815165002

I think that just about does it. I can get the mouse and keyboard along with my speakers (surround sound) at my local Staples or something.

My plan is to spend arond 1000 bucks on the above parts. Then another 200-250 on the 17 inch LCD. If anyone has some recommendations or suggestions on what is better, it would be greatly appreciated.

This computer will be used for gaming (CoD 2, half life (not 2), starcraft, maybe halo, star wars galaxies, battlefront 1 and 2, kotor 1 and 2, and maybe battlefield 2, along with office applications, DVD editing and burning, and DVD watching as the main things.

Thanks everyone (ps: if this thread is in the wrong place, i apologize ahead of time )

Welcome to AOA's Forums, calhoun!

Looks acceptable, though I'd suggest a more powerful PSU and a name brand Firewire card. 19" LCD's can be cheap when they are on sale, more video real estate is always nice.

Hi Calhoun.
There's a thing I don't get: why'd you want 4 sticks of 512 MB Ram ? Why not 2 * 1 GB?

when shopping for PSU's you should look at ones that have 24a or more on the 12v rail.

wattage means nothing.

get the sapphire x800GTO2 it is 100% moddable to x850xt pe

An EPoX motherboard never hurt anyone..ask Weldzilla. And you should get some nice 2*1Gb sticks along with that X800GTO2, it's a steal.

do you really think 2 sticks of 1 GB of memory is better than 4 sticks of 512? Is it all that much faster either? Also, I want to stick with the motherboard I have because I want to build a computer that wont be outdated in another year or so. Thats the main reason I have a MOBO that supports PC5400 at 667 mhz DDR memory is because its way faster than the PC3200 memory at 400 mhz. Something else I forgot was the network card so I can use internet lol

Well that would depend on how much your spending.
An ATI 16mb Rage would run Starcraft, a GF4 will run WC3
But if you get that X800GTO,then I wouldnt worry at all
about your games, they'll all look great.

Go for the 2*1 GBsticks or RAM, this way you'll have two
DIMM slots (assuming your board has 4) open in case you
get more.

t SInce your ram isn't high end don't get 4 sticks. Like what is said lower you want to upgrade
this is more but the sound card is amzing it puts everything to 24 bit and malkes 10 virtual spaekers (it really does) with headphone I know it's extra but it worth it.

try this for a vido card you can get it upto 400 Mhz no(5c) heat inrease. I know it's 50 more but I think it's worth it. Mt firnds has the 6800 my 6800 GT (oc to the same as a unltra) workes 3 times better and gets 2000 more 3dMark 05 points. ANother one of my friends got it all the way upto 450 Mhz clock spped.

The only reason yours is in 2T, madcat, is because you have an Athlon64, which has a built in memory controller; a wonderful one at that for being built in. Anyways, the reason you should get the 2*1Gb is purely for upgrade reasons. The difference between PC3200 and anything more doesn't mean much unless you're overclocking. Your processor has an FSB of 200 and PC3200 RAM runs at 200Mhz..what a coincidence. I'd just get a 120mm copper Zalman for your fan, it's well worth it, almost as efficient as water cooling without the hassle..just make sure it's compatible with your motherboard. Forget the motherboard I suggested earlier. PCI-Express is a must, it's time to stop buying AGP for a new system, the price difference is too minimal. Though, please consider an EPoX, they're wonderful for Intel chips. Do not buy refurbished products. The X800GTO2 is a steal and can be modded far past a 6800GT. Last refurbished product I bought had to be returned due to being defective..a Leadtek 6600GT from Newegg.
