Volcano 7 heat sink error

i brought this heatsink but for some reason when i plug it in and turn on my computer, my computer report that the cpu's fan is not running. I check and the fan running fine. I also check the connector and everything seem to connect correctly. Anyone know y this happening and what should i do?

[elder god]Welcome, young Raziel.[/elder god]

Does the fan have three wires (typically one red, one black, and one blue)? Are all three attached to the fan and to the connector? Have you tried the fan in another header? have you tried another fan in the CPU fan header? Basically, you need to find out where the problem lies: with the header, or with the fan?

I have a Volcano7 that I reviewed here, that suffers from the same problem. It gets no signal on the RPM wires.

Is it the fan, or the mobo, or does it not matter which header you have the fan attached to? May just be fan that Thermaltake (they make the Volcano, right?) uses. If that is the case, get a sunon 80mm to replace it! (Did that on my FOP38)

I don't use the TtV7, it is still sitting in its box. It doesn't have enough performance for my liking.

It is most definitely the tach wire, even testing it with a multimeter gets no reading on the wire.

Welcome to AOL Forums, soulreaver!
Assuming that this fan draws less than ~2.2 Watts, just live without the RPM monitoring. If 2.2 Watts or above, get a 3-
Pin-to-4-Pin adapter and plug it into the main power "daisy chain" of four pin Molex connectors.

If your mainboard refuses to run the CPU because it gets no RPM reading from the HSF, see if this feature can be disabled in BIOS.

i think that shobiz94 is right. i think that the rpm wire (yellow) is not getting a reading. I plug the heatsink that comes with the chip and it work fines but when i plug in the v7 it doesnt work. should i get a re-fund for this?

best bet would be to just take the fan off your old heatsink, put it somewhere in teh case, maybe blowing at the capacitors etc next to the socket, and plug this into the CPU fan header, plug the cpu fan into another header and all should be well

i contacted thermaltake they said they will sent me a temp. one to use and they will analyze the problem in their lab and let me know latter. i requested the volcano 7+ for temp. hopefully i'll get it.

I pluged the fan into one of my other fan header and it's true, i get no rpm reading report from PC Alert III. So i quess it's true that either the thing defected or the rpm wire is screw up.

Thanks everyone for helping me out

Yep, sounds like either the fan or the wire. I'd replace the fan with a bigger one anyway, if you can make it fit.
