External 1394 HDD to a HD set with 1394 out, can it work?

The Mitsubishi 1080p DLP sets all have a 1394 ports for recording to D-VHS recorders or to/from camcorders;

A couple of their models have built in HDD's to use as a PVR. Does anyone know if a external 1394 HDD would work here?

Two questions about these drives; I understand they come formatted, is that correct?
If so, is the fle system NTFS considering the size of these drives (most over 160G)?

Data to/from digital video sources is usually provided in the form of an MPEG stream, rather than anything that a hard disk can understand. The likelihood is that an external firewire drive would not work, although no damage should result from you trying.

The file system is dependant on the OS running on the system. From research others have done, it appears to be propriatory to Mitsubishi. It's definately not NTFS.
