Imo, the best thing about LCD monitors is that they make nobody want all the 21" CRTs I can buy on ebay. I absolutely detest using LCDs. Gimie a real monitor any day.

Samsung & Hyundai are good.. However, there are no guarantees for no dead pixels. Unless the site you are looking at explicitly has an unconditional return policy, you have to take your chances. I believe the ISO standard is 6-7 bad dots for a 17in, so mfgrs are loathe to accept replacements.

If you want iron clad guarantee, you should go to a store that has a 30 day return policy (without exclusions). If you want a guarantee, you have to pay more.

I think that in the UK you can return goods for any or no reason for up to 14 days. But, retailers can dig their heels in and make things as hard as possible with certain goods.

Most LCD screens come out the same few factories in Asia.
For style: AG Neovo
For performance: Viewsonic

Stuff CRTs. New LCDs are easily as capable except for the most demanding graphic designer etc.

With regards to dots, you can't avoid it and if your dot is in an acceptable area you cannot have your LCD refunded for it being a "fault".
It is not classed as a fault unless it is outside of the gaurantee limtis that come with your LCD.
My E017 Neovo has a gaurantee that if there are damaged pixels outside a middle-centred box about 4 inches accross, only then is it deemed faulty and can you replace it.
A 14-day money-back no-quibble guarantee is in place in the uK, so if your fussy you can send a TFT back anyway.

I'm not aware of any factories which make TFT panels in the USA or UK. The bulk of them are produced in Taiwan.
