Well, better late than never I say. Not only production and stocks, but sales rate for Intel is starting to reach all-time lows. Perhaps this will finally stimulate them into producing more quality chips that A) Require less power B) are more efficient including a larger L1 cache and D) do not require massive aftermarket heatsinks too keep at a suitable temperature **cough Prescott* cough

If Intel was to truely focus on a "desktop" Dothan core, with its own 479 motherboard, Crossfire and SLI support, I might give them some credit. Instead they rushed to compete with AMD and realesed two crappy chips on the same die, took away their competitive edge (HT)---marketing tool really, unless you purchase the EE edition at $1000+) then had the nerve to push it knowing full well it had problems with any motherboard not sporting the 955 or 975x chipset.

These are not good business practices, and the second Dell would start selling AMD CPU's in their machines and not as separate accessories, Intel better realize at that point....there's something terribly wrong.

Wait! I've seen this happen before, it wasn't in a dream, I'm sure of it!

I've got it! They use to call this Competition! There use to be more than one company doing a given thing. Then they would try to out do each other in pleasing the consumer, no! Really!!

Then they discovered "mergers" Where in they "compete" to screw their stock holders. Competition never "Really" dies, it just sometimes smells that way...":O}

Now all Dell has to do is to actually sell more than just the cpus, As that is all those are, Not an Entire PC with a motherboard that is compatible with an A64 cpu, I'm sorry to say. But hey It's a start.

Rumors of Dell using AMD processors used to surface yearly. My guess is that Mr Dell finally realized that AMD rigs outsell Intel boxes, if only slightly. Think he'll actually use AMD processors? Judging by the past, he won't.

Looks like Dell has gotten their contract manufacturers to gear up for AMD production, according to this story over at DigiTimes.

I think it won't work even if they do. The average person doesn't want nor do they need an amd. They want hyperthreading and a higher Ghz level.
I personly think dell with thrive on intel and alienware on AMD. The thing about dells is they are not well built I opend my frineds yesterday and it took me about 3 minutes to find the ram. My alienware took me about 2 mins to find the wires.

Makes You wonder if the dell even had any ram for a minute I'd bet. LOL! Hyperthreading on home pcs might be ok, But on servers It seems to make them choke It seems.

If higher GHz is the criterion, then AMD is going to have that when Intel shuts down the P4 and move to Yonah. Hyperthreading appears to be going away, at least for the time being, as well, particularly on the server side.

I really don't see this being a big deal on the desktop. People want the cheapest machine they can get that does what they want. For the most part, they don't really care whether it is AMD or Intel.

On the server side, though, there is demand for AMD, due in part to Intel's rather, err, stumbling approach to 64-bit server technology (Itanic and EM64T), as well as the upwardly spiraling power budgets. Dell finally entering the fray with an AMD product could be pretty significant. The fact that their contractor are gearing up for production doesn't necessarily mean that Dell is going to actually market a product, of course. Dell may just be sending a message to Intel.

The fact remains, however, that at this point in the game, the market is AMD's to lose. Given the fact that AMD has historically had a hard time maintaining a significant advantage over Intel (due both to Intel's capabilities and AMD's penchant for creating its own problems), this could prove to be very interesting.

It was funny because I saw two blank peices of "ram" I removed them and the computer wouldn't start and an alarm went off. I cheched everest and found out they were rimms not dimms. (oops) and this was a new dell.
