Angry Don't you just hate it when.....

.....Windows won't detect your ADSL modem after doing a repair install so it asks you to connect to the internet so that it can search for drivers at windows update

That's just what happened to me. The modem was a BT Voyager 100 USB ADSL (BT and AOL modem if you know what i mean) and even though i had the correct drivers, windows was having none of it. So there i've been, for the past god know how long trying to sort it out. I've used the drivers before but this time it was no use. I'm now using the speedtouch one that my ISP sent me when we signed up. There are a few things i've realised though in the past few hours:

1. Never trust AOL (knew that already).
2. Never use a BT modem if you need to do an XP repair install.
3. I can not install SP2 because the windows kernel isn't the one windows is supposed to use (WTF? how? i want my SP2 god damn it!).
4. If you think you've lost the modem you got from your ISP, you haven't, it's just under the computer desk (i looked everywhere except there which is where it was all along).

So, there we have it, a small checklist to a error free windows repair.

EDIT: Just realised that it's my custom bootscreen that was causing the SP2 error.

I find running something that'll accepts ADSL one end and Ethernet the other end is much less painful. At least ethernet is supported by just about everything!

Except when windows doesn't come with your NIC drivers and you can't find the disk anymore >_<

It bites that reinstalling a Win OS is fraught with confusion or even terror. PC's should be ten times easier to use than they are. It's 2005 fer cryin' out loud.

"The motherboard installation section essentially said "refer to motherboard manual for installation instructions". My motherboard manual of course said "refer to case manual for further installation instructions"."

Not really. The 1.6MHz Nintendo worked right out the box!

The NES wasn't expandable either. You were stuck with the processing/graphics they gave you. Having said that, there's nothing stopping someone implementing a basic IP stack and web browser on the NES... be a bit slow though.
