Nobody should say you have to bother with SLI at all.
My AN8 board isn't SLI and this saved me over £50, which I then spent on more memory etc. I don't need SLI because one card does well enough for me.
And when it doesn't, I can just repalce with a single card again.

SLI isn't needed for anything, except bragging rights or if you insist on the most crazy FPS.

I think a 6600 might be a better buy as opposed to the 6200TC. What's the price difference?

about £30 but i'm at my max. Something i've just realised is that the cheapest i can buy from ebuyer is a 3200+, not a 3000+. I hope that they overclock about the same.

I've had bad experiences with Ebuyer for example bad postage, but i'm sure this was a one off experience i had. I'm just amazed how they can keep prices so low.

I had a problem with ebuyer once, but that was entirely my mums fault for not being at home when they tried to deliver. But now i have another problem, tell me, what is the chance that literally hours before i am about to order, i find that they don't have any 3000+ OR 3200+ in stock! they have 3500+ but that is too expensive at the moment. They won't have any in stock for another week either! I bid thee farewell cruel, cruel world!

Well, i've tried Scan, Dabs, OCUK, Overclock.co.uk and ebuyer. Dabs, Scan and overclock.co.uk didn't have the board i was after (some didn't even have any DFI!) ebuyer didn't have the board in stock, so it appears that either way, i'm going with OCUK anyway!

You should know that O*ter*n is a swear word in my dictionary. I would much rather have an Athlon 64.

Opteron 144 is socket 939 and highly overclockable even on air you can find them as low as £95 online but it's your choice just a suggestion mate

Is that just you being short sighted - or is there a reason?

I don't know, it's just that i've been planning on an Athlon 64 for so long now, i just don't know. £100 for the 144, in fact, 144 is my house number! Tell me, how overclockable is the Opteron 144 San Diego? It's 1.8 Ghz at stock but what could i reach if i overclocked? what's the max multiplier? I assume the HTT lies with the motherboard so this would be the same?

>I wasnt questioning your choices, just wondered why you were so against Opterons.
>Anyway, if it helps - I can boot into windows at 2700 (300 * 9) - stock cooler - and have run basic office etc programmes - not tested properly. Also this shot isnt showing volt - so have backed down for now.
>I hit my budget (then came christmas) - so not sorted cooling beyond stock yet (maybe next payday).

Hmmmm, that's not too bad. but i think that i'm gonna stick with athlon. I'm not against Opteron, i'm just used to the K7 models such as athlon and Duron.

I've found the cheapest option to get what i want though. But it involves 2 deliveries, one from ebuyer which contains all but the CPU and the CPU from OCUK. It's cheaper than buying all from one place. Then again, i could wait until whenever and order all from ebuyer at once. But, knowing my luck, a different item would have gone out of stock.

The Athlon 64 is a different beast to the Athlon 32 you have now.

That Opteron is the chip of choice right now. It is made with a better grade of silicon than the Athlons. This means better OC potential.

So many decisions, so little time! I can't get opterons from ebuyer but if i buy from OCUK, it's £330 which is way too much. Getting them delivered seperately though is £314. GRRRRRR! Why can't there be just one stockist that keeps prices as low as ebuyer but has as much stock as OCUK! It's really annoying me.

Wow, my precognition came true too early! Now the PSU is out of stock at ebuyer! Looks like it's OCUK all the way now!

Not really but thanks for trying! I've got about £320 max to spend, that must include VAT and Delivery. I've got that monitor i was after, pretty decent but there's no VGA cable with it and the power cable only gives out 3.0A whereas the monitor needs 4.0A. I have got one of those 'all round' adapters for things like portable radios, it's got a voltage and polarity change switch. I plugged it in to the monitor, and switched it on. The power light flashed on and the screen flashed on (went a bit darker as though it was active) for a second. Then it went into standby so it's working, but i now need a VGA to VGA adapter, both ends need to 'plug into', one end into the GPU card and one into the monitor, both 'male' connections are needed at both ends of the cable.

So i've got about £320 to spend at max, no more though. So i can afford a 3200+ possibly. I think i'll stick with athlon.
