Via USB 2.0 PCI card.

I've recently had to buy a VIA Usb 2.0 pci card as my Mbox simply cannot interface fast enough with my cruddy old usb ports. I'm getting allsorts of latency and crackles n pops when recording. NOT good!

Installed the card no problems, device manager lists it as installed correctly but whenever i plug a device into it finds it but then disconnects, then reconects the device periodically. I've downloaded the latest drivers from the VIA website with no luck. I tested it with my mp3 player with Notmad explorer to see how fast the transfer rate was, it barely went above 25mb/s and then locked up the pc completely mid transfer and messed the firmware completely on my mp3 player!

Any ideas what i can do to fix it? Or should i take it back?

Take the USB 2.0 back to the seller. ALI brand PCI USB 2.0 cards have an excellent reputation.

USB Adaptors based around NEC's USB chipsets seem to have a high reputation too.

On Pricewatch, I see two etailers selling NEC PCI USB 2.0 cards and one offering an ALI version in the US. Dunno about the UK, sorry.
