It's a shrink of about 25% in the channel length of the transistors. 45 nM tech is half the size of current mainstream parts (the A64 and P4 chips), 32 nM tech would be about half the size of the newly released dual-core Yonah chips from Intel.

The decrease in feature size means that we can put more functionality in the same die area, OR we can make the current level of functionality more cheaply.

They seem to be skipping over 45nm and getting straight to 32nm. Sounds like more of a financial decision than anything else. Why pump a truck load of cash in to developing 45nm when you can just get started on 32nm instead?

Does that mean that we may see 3 cores for the price of 1 in the future?
