Well, what are your system specs?

High end Etasis, Silverstone, Zippy or PC Power and Cooling PSU's are absolutely top tier (in my book). Next come OCZ (not the dual 12V rail version) and Fortron.

Absolute best - no worries about money, most probably never have to upgrade until MB's use a different voltage?

They r nice, I don't think it will fit in my case but it is worth checking looking at the 850 watt.

IMO the PC power and cooling units are way overpriced, not to say that they are not qouality, but the price is just rediculous compared to other PSU's of the same or higher quality, I mean c'mon $500 for a PSU?

Yes they may be a bit overpriced, but you pay for a Lamborghini, you not only pay for the car, but also the brand.

Ferrari's have to be the most overpriced car for what you get - but again you pay for the brand.

Rolls Royce, Bugatti, Nike, Reebok, Denon, Marantz, Meridian (audio), Bose, Audi, BMW, Fiat, Volkswagon, DFI, BFG, Via Epia, OCZ, Mushkin, etc, etc, etc

You know you are going to get quality, but you get it at a price.

How about:

Silverstone ST75ZF

or

Silverstone ST46GF

or

Silverstone ST65ZF

AMD and Intel don't count - AMD are cheap and Intel are not quality

i strongly recommend Hiper 580W Type-R modular PSU. I've got it. It's inaudiable (ok, about 15db) and is true wattage which means that there's not much varying off of the original 580w. About £60 - £75 but it is very well worth it.

I consider Enermax, Seasonic, OCZ and PC P&C.

I've dealt with the Hiper's and though you may like it, the stability of the thing left much to be desired, and I wouldn't be game place it under high load.

Your Athlon64 is rather low on the power usage so I wouldn't be too bothered about it though.

I consider the Enermax 400-520 Noisetaker range (the old model) to be the best price and performance combination on the market. Anything less is sub standard.

I actually quite like the Fortron / sparkle / FSP PSU's

They are stable, reliable, have enough amps on the correct rails (12V), and most importantly you can get a 400W for $40 on newegg - even in NZ they are cheap.

I have three PC P&C PSU's, they were expensive. However, I think they are the best available. The last one I bought is a Turbo Cool 510 Express/ SLI. At $197.10 I think it's worth it. The 850W and 1000W models are hella expensive, I'd need to have a box full of very expensive components before I'd even consider shelling out a small fortune. I hope that the 510 Turbo Cool sees me through the next machine I build!

Im with DSIO on this one. I shopped around alot before getting my Enermax PSU, and it is VERY stable and reliable and easily the best choice possible for performance and price. Its easily worth more than it cost, and it runs 24/7 with no issues whatsoever. I will be an Enermax buyer for life.

Yea, I bought my first enermax about 5 years ago, and its still going strong in one of my Athlon XPs. Its been going pretty much 24/7 for that length of time, so I really have to give it credit.

I was so impressed with the first that I kept buying them, and at this point I have about 4, the latest of which is the previous model, the noisetaker. I might get a new liberty high wattage unit when I do the AM2 / PCI-E swap at the end of the year.

Well I got the Antec Neo HE 500watt. Got the rest he owed me cash. Well I've got to say that I'm happy with it my old PSU's 12volt rail would drop to only 11.54 volts and I would get a restart. The Antec will only go down as low as 11.94 volts so I'm now much happier. Thanks for the info though.

MB is DFI LP-Expert

I have upgraded to the Epsilon GLN-600. Boy are the rails stable or what

This is what I see at stock settings (no OC) under load, whilst running 3DM01. System in sig.

The 12V line is overvolting a bit. I measured these from a Molex.

Check these out, under a little memtest load

12 V remains almost the same (overvolting a bit more now!):
I'm using all the native 12V plugs, i.e 2 x SLI + 2 x EPS. (DFI-NF4 Expert)

PS*
dsio, you guys were whipped by SA. Wow, I didn't know the mighty Aussies couldn't defend 420+ in a one dayer !!!
I suppose the pitch was so flat and the ground so small, that any N00b could have slogged his way out of this. Really exposed your bowling. Without Warney and McGrath, you guys are looking a bit shaky in the bowling department.

That +12V figure is fine. You should see a 12V rail at around 12.3-12.4. Most video cards in fact like more voltage on the +12V (nvidia) and +5V (ATI) to keep those regulators better fed.

And yes, when you take them out, its a good side. When you have the two best bowlers in the world on the one team it gets unfair towards SA. Its nice to give them the impression that they can win by letting Austalia's "B" team play them.
