Lightbulb PS2 or XBOX ?

My lil'cousin and his bro have been saving some money to get a console. these are kids & they dont own and cant afford HDTVs for themselves, or expensive next gen consoles. So they were asking from
1. PS2 or 2. XBOX

- which wud they get? They love good graphis.. and I think xbox is better for them. The lower number of XBOX games is not a prob for them, as they only wanna buy good titles. Thing is would XBOX games be coming out for next 3-4 years? i thot i cud take the help of this forum.....

There will continue to be XBox games released for a while yet, but the number of new games released is going to decrease SUBSTANTIALLY (and in fact already has, AIUI).

If I was limited to a choice between XBox or PS2, I'd have to go with PS2. The graphics of the Xbox are not THAT MUCH better than the PS2. In addition, if you are limited to viewing on a regular TV set, what difference there is probably won't be very noticable. Finally, the PS2 can play almost all PS1 games as well, so you have a HUGE software library to choose from. They may be saying that the lower number of XBox games is not a prob for them, but let's apply the 80/20 rule here: If 80% of everything is crap, and 20% is decent, then being able to choose from a larger library of titles means that, although there will be more crap, there will also be more good stuff. And don't kid yourself, there is every bit as much crap for either platform. Anybody who thinks that the XBox has only good titles is delusional.

Do the PS2 and XBox cost the same? Do the games for them cost the same? Just asking.

PS2, I mean all the games on the xbox are either 1 already on PC or 2 already of PS2, however PS2 games tend to be for Sony only ie Metal Gear Solid, Gran Tourismo etc

I'd consider buying a PS2 if my TV was bigger. 20" is pretty small.

Kids aren't going to be too bothered about Graphics. So lets not let that become a tangent to the real issue.
The fact is, the PS2 is probably more kid friendly. From the games to the controllers, form little ones I know PS2 tends to get more of a thumbs up than the Xbox.

Why not a Game Cube? They are dead cheap and have plenty of child-friendly games, the controllers are easy for small hands to use, too. Also, with the money that they save, they could buy some extra games, or put it towards their next console, once the prices drop.

I still think PS2. It has the added possibility of fun with an eye-toy which children will love.

Just saw a news bite:

The older PS2 has sold 300.000 units the Xbox 150,000 units, in the same time periord. MS hasn't shown itself to be able to take market share... and I'm GLAD! ":O}

Glad about Microsoft's inability to corner the game console market? Well, it doesn't hurt my feelings. They have near total coverage with OS's. More than enough greed. Oops, "greed" and "enough" are oxymoronic.

Hints are that for the PS2 worldwide sales have been over 100million and for the original Xbox 23 Million. This is all time sales, rather than over any specific time period.

Don't think that Sony isn't planning the same sort of things that MS is.

What's this? Only 4 votes in the poll? Surely more people have an opinion than this?

I have to respectfully disagree with their conclusions, if the PS3 ships at the projected $425 launch price. I just don't see a lot of folks shelling out that kind of dosh for a system. I do, however, think the Nintendo system will end up doing quite well, so I in that much I agree with them.

$425 isn't that much more than the current price for a 360 in the UK.

I'm sure it will sell in the UK at that price. I don't know about the USA or elsewhere.

The core system, which comes with the console, one controller, faceplate, A/V cable, an XBox Live! Silver membership, and a trial 30-day gold membership, is $299.

The premium system, which includes the core stuff plus a 20GB drive, a wireless controller in place of the wired controller, a headset, an ethernet cable, and a component HD-AV cable, is $400.

Of course, that's assuming you can actually get one....

Hmm......wonder if the projected $425 price is for the 'premium' version of the PS3?

no.
Anyway while I really like the original xbox, more so then the 360, the ps2 is in fact more friendly with things like DDR(not the ram). The 360 and revouloution are also very friendly if you want to consider waiting.
