which plasma?

problem resides on the resolution that the plasma runs native, and what the cable can provide.

BTW, component cables ARE NOT HD.

Well, the pc input will give you more resolution choices.

Although component calbes can carry an "HD" signal, chances are your screen is a native 1280x768, which almost encompasses the limit that a component cable can carry. The pc input, on the other hand, will carry more colour information, and hold a "truer" picture as there is no conversion to analogue happening for the cable. Best to feed a digital display with a digital signal.

If the feed is taken from the VGA connector on the PC to the VGA connector on the media receiver then you're using analog. The VGA connector only offers analog outputs.

From memory, the 5060HD supports the use of two HDMI connections. If you have a graphics card with DVI out, you should be able to connect DVI to HDMI. If your machine has a digital audio output, then that can also be pushed over the HDMI connector. Note, I've not tried this personally.

You're right Aedan...VGA is analogue, but it does hold more info than a composite connection. I had a long day yesterday.

yes you can get a DVI-HDMI converter cable, quite expensive tho, in comparison to other cables. we won't see HDMI connection on vidcards for a while, i think.

HDMI is basically a DVI output with a few extras. It takes DVI and adds the HDCP copy protection, and throws audio into the mix as well.

However, it'll also happily run just DVI instead.

it's the hdcp chip that holds these connectors back from vidcards currently.

I did something like this. My PC is hooked upto my samsung plasma, through PC-PC inputs. I connected my X-fi to a creative DTS-610 and then used an optical cable to a yamaha amp and then to my energy take speakers.

yes you're correct VGA provides better picture quality than composite, even outperforms Component.... also depending on the quality of the cables. Higher spec'ed cables that are rated at UXGA or QXGA are best in their analog class.

Woa.... nice tv you got there, z3speed4me
