RAID help please

I just purchased a new PC with an Asus A8NSLI-Deluxe mobo. I also got 2 74GB WD Raptor HD's with it as well. This mobo has 2 SATA RAID controllers: the nForce and Silicon Image. Along with this purchase, I also won an auction for a lot of 6 80GB Seagate SATA150 drives which I wanted to put in this rig. Could anyone give me a recommendation as to how I should set up the RAIDs? What I'm thinking is the 2 Raptors on the nForce and the others on the SI. Is it possible to set up RAID 0 with 6 drives or does the # have to be a power of 2? How is RAID 5 on performace vs RAID 0. I'm not concerned about redundancy in the raids. I'm not sur eon this, but RAID 5 takes 3 drives, right? Would I in turn be able to make two RAID 5's on the SI and take those two and form a RAID 0? I'm not too savy with the whole RAID set-up. All i know is I had a lot of trouble setting up a fresh install of XP in my sig. THanx for any input.

The two Raptors on one SATA channel in RAID 0 makes sense. About the six SATA 150's... tbh, I don't know.

yeah, chances are, not all six of the seagate drives will work. I bought them untested off ebay....$60 shipped for all 6, i couldn't resist. From the sellers reviews though, i saw many satisfied customers.

Id put the raptors on the Nforce RAID myself, some might argue but ive always found it very good.

1. you need a sata controller with 6 channels for a raidsystem with 6 drives. both, nf4 and sli, have only 4. the nf4 chip allows crossspanning between ide and sata (4 sata + 2 ide)

2. I tested with 4 satadrives raidmodes 0, 0+1 and 5 with an A8N-VM-CSM (nf4 430)
raid0: 2hdds ~100MB read, 4hdds ~190MB/s read
raid0+1: 4hdds performance and capacity equal to raid0 2hdds
raid5: 4hdds ~130MB/s capacity of 3

3. I would do this:

a) if all hdds are ok:
@nf4: 2 raptors raid0 and 2 seagate raid0
@SIL: 4 seagate raid5

b) if only 4 or 3 seagate + both raptors
@nf4: 4 or 3 seagate raid5
@SIL: 2 raptors raid0
