Creative Zen Xtra 60GB hard disk problem

For some reason my much loved and long cared for MP3 player has given up the ghost. I never abused it whatsoever during use and always kept it it's protective pouch.

Today i switched it on and it has come up with rescue mode. Every option apart from clean up comes up with hard disk problem. Clean up just goes back to the menu and does nothing.

I've had it for longer than a year i think. This means my warrenty is null and i would have to pay for repairs. I've just been made redundant and i can't afford a brand new mp3 player.

What are my choices?

Any tips on how to fix it?

Nevermind. I've found some links (http://home.mchsi.com/~sallad/zen/tutorial.html) on how to replace the hard drive so i'm going to upgrade it!

I will do! I've ordered an 80GB Hitachi Travelstar 9.5mm laptop drive to put into my Zen Xtra. If i'm going to repair it, it might as well be an upgrade! Should be here in the next few days i'll take pictures and do a write up. I couldn't find any detailed guides on upgrade my particular model so it can't hurt to change that!

A how-to would be very helpful, thank you devilmyarse! Can't make up my mind which is the more cruel phrase, being laid off or made redundant?
