Talking Got a freebie...

I just picked up an Antec SOHO server case with a lovely Abit kt7a raid and a 1.33 A-Bird...for the lovely price of free.....

It was piched in a dumpster...yes in the stinking garbage.

The business next to ours is moving out and decided to pich all kinds of goodies.

Also picked up 3 HP J3272A 24 port
2 HP J3245A 8 ports
and the lovely firebox FB100 I listed in another thread...

Chris...before you ask..the Abit rig does run and will be folding by the end of the week.

Still looking for a board to put into the firebox for a folder...

Just thought I would share my good fortune....

The real shame is knowing there are things like that out there that don't get rescued. What a terrible waste! I'd really like to come across some laptops that have dead harddrives and such.

Free hardware is the best kind!

Be sure and check that KT7A for bulging caps. And be sure and replace them before they ruin the board if it has any.

No hard drives Daniel~.

Oh well...

I did give the board a good once over and all looks well. The HSF sounded like a moter boat so that was quickly replaced. It boots fine and all I need to do is load an OS...maybe a linux flavor.....

Well bad news. It appears the Abit board died. I had several drives installed in the Antec case and never really got around to adding case fans...I know I know....

I tested all the othere hardware in my boys rig and all works fine. The board cost nothing so no big deal. Well actually it is cause it was folding 24/7. weel if I don't find a replacement board soon, it will give me an opportunity to work up a nice case mod on the nice case....

What kind of processor did it hold? I think I may have a motherboard around somewhere that I'd give up for the price of shipping that supports tbird processors..

I think I have 2 MSIs with 1.8s in atm... should work fine with a tbird me thinks. Will check on the model.

*edit* This is the board I know is quirk free. It should work fine with what you have correct?

Nate X

The Abit KT7A was a VIA KT133A chipset based motherboard (one of the best) but it takes PC133 RAM. But if he has RAM for it that board should work.

BTW Sam, I would be interested in that board if it is actually dead and you are willing to part with it.

I have 3 256 sticks of PC133. That is what was running in this rig before it gave up.

A moment of silence for what was a great board in it's time...

Let me know what you need for the hardware and I will get it too you.

Actually Sam, I wanted that dead MoBo to make a clock out of it. No parts needed, just a dead motherboard and some bits from a craft store.

Check out my new timepiece.

That thread didn't get much response, but I later built another one for MookyDooky from a red MSI board and everyone seemed to like that one. I don't know how gold will go over.
