nice, this should if put into practice help AMD since they have a smaller budget then intel.

This has other benefits as well, if it works.

There are a number of performance-enhancing compounds (dopants) that could be added to the manufacturing process, but which can't survive the high temps required to produce the oxide layer. These could be used if the UV technique is successful.

Has been done.

Proving something is possible in a lab, is one thing. Actually building a factory to produce this is a whole lot more work.

On the surface, it does look like something which they may pursue, given that it is a cheaper process using less energy.
