Dead PC!

Hi guys

I am mega pissed off! for the last 40 days my pc has been dead due to a gfx card. Just got a new one on Saturday and came down this morning to find somthing has tripped the switch on our houses electrics. Tried turning my pc on and nothing not a sausage. I have checked all the conections and they are fine I dont even get the led on my mother boards to light up. Could it be my PSU or Power cable fuse?

what PSU do you have? also what card did you put in your pc? if a fuse has blown then it is for a good reason.

Got an Ermax Noise Taker 650W PSU and a XfX 7900GT. The thing is my PC was turned off when it switch tripped.

turned off at the wall or just shutdown? if the wall socket was physically switched off then that would mean another item tripped the RCD(i presume this is what you mean?) and your PCs problem is unrelated, if it was just shutdown then it could still be a PSU or motherboard issue as motherboards still draw minimal power when the pc is shutdown thats why the motherboard usually has an LED to show power is connected.

Even though Enermax are reliable power supplies and your system is well within your PSUs capabillites my first course of action would be take your PSU out and test it on its own, plug a fan onto a molex and trip the startup connections on the ATX plug if it powers the fan up then its probably ok, always worth getting a multimeter and checking the output voltages even if it does though.

If it was shutdown then my money would be on motherboard or PSU, test the PSU seperately and you can soon narrow it down, test the fuse in your plug in something else that requires the same ampage to check that as well although if it has blown it is probably for a good reason.
