HDD "clicking" on boot-up.

A older Maxtor HDD (model 54098H8) makes the dreaded 'Western Digital' like "clicking" noise on boot up. The MB doesn't see the drive. It was ok, but started to 'act up' and then went dead.

Is this drive toast?

I would say yes.. you may be able to get some data off it if you need to.. last maxtor that crapped out I hooked up as a slave drive.. windows saw it.. but I had to beat it a few times while it was powered on before I could access it long enough to get anything off it hehe.. Had to slam it against the table pretty much hehe.

Like Nate-X says, a few solid taps with a screwdriver may get it going so you can get any data off it.
