ATA hard drive, is there an adapter to use it on SATA?

I wouldn't mine leaving the IDE ( X2) to my DVD and CD drives. Is there an adapter to allow ATA to SATA HD hook up?

Also how much faster is a Regular SATA drive, when all else is equal, compared to a ATA HD?

How fast are external drives on USB 2 or firwire? Is there a reason not to use a USB 2 or FW external as a main drive,.... exporting the heat?

I asked about this before, but can't find the thread! ":O}

TIA

Thanks Super Nade! Have you had personal experience with this? How well does the resulting hook perform as opposed to the normal IDE hook up...If you happen to know? ":O}

The controller chip on the IDE (UDMA chip if I'm not mistaken), will bottleneck your drive. I mean, just by using the converter, will take a small performance hit. I have seen such an adapter in HP systems. No noticable slowdowns.
