I have never run 2000Pro but I have used Norton (which IMHO is crap, it's the AOL of AV), McAffee, GriSoft, and Trend Micro. Out of those 4 Trend Micro's PC Cillin was the best and most efficiant non invasive easiest to use program outthere. No AV program will be 100% effective, but Trend Micro is right up there at the top.

I personally like and use AVG on all my systems. The free edition can be found here:

Disk utilities--I don't know, I've never used any. I've used Trend Micro AV for eighteen months, no problems at all. It's about $50 per year and updates every day, sometimes more than once a day.

I still use AVG for AV. I have tried them all and AVG seems to work without all the fuss. I do use Norton disk utilities and run from the CD only. I never install anything Norton. A big resource pig....

I've used Panda AntiVirus Titanium 2006 on both my computers and has never failed me. You may need a medium-end computer to deal with the memory usage.

Here's a link to a free copy of Kapersky offered by AOL. It is branded, but powered by kaspersky. AOL did not put ads or anything in it.

Hey Dan, ever tried Avast? It works well for me. You can DL the free version or go for the Home/Pro version, Server edition, Network Client, Distributed Network Manager, Linux, etc.: www.avast.com

The total bomb is Armorware...IF you have $485. to spend: www.armorware.com

But I have to say Norton is utter crap! I always use their "free included software" CD's as drink coasters.

Are you spelling it "Armorware" or "Armorwear"?

The link works OK for me: http://www.armorware.com/

I use www.avast.com you'll have to give them a vaild email addy but if you don't want to just give them a fake one and try it out for 30 days.

It doesn't seem to take up too much resources either.

Yup, I see exactly the same thing. Just about all the links on their site redirect to ".htaccess", which doesn't work.

I like PandaAntivirus/PandaAntispyware. I tends to find everthing and more than norton or mcafee and it actually removes them and doesn't put them into a quarrantine.

I can't stand AV programs that simply just remove files. I've lost track of the number of times that an AV program has decided it doesn't like a bit of software that I have and decides to quarantine it. At least I can get it back easily if it's in quarantine!

I tried Panda once a long time ago. It came with a system program I got. Completly wrecked my OS. I can't even remember what happened. I tried it twice and after the second reinsrtall I realized what the prob was
