I know that our Members can recommend a tome or ten. I'm tempted to say an O'Reilly book would be good. If there's a PC's for Dummies, maybe it's a good choice. Don't be insulted by the title, it might be a good introduction. I have more than one 'something for Dummies' books handy!

There's many aspects to website creation however! For example, for AOA to function, there has to be knowledge of:
  • OS (Windows/Linux/BSD)
  • Webserver (Apache/IIS/J2EE)
  • Database (Postgres/Oracle/MySQL/MSSQL)
  • Scripting language (ASP/PHP)
  • HTML
  • CSS

If you're interested in what can be done in CSS and the design work that needs to be done, "The Zen of CSS Design" is a good book. However, I'd recommend that you examine the book before you buy it!

Or not really in your particular area of interest at the given time...

I think many who do learn this stuff, do so because there is something they want to do, as a means to an end... I keep telling Aedan he should take more joy in the task for it's own sake...yet he seems not to hear me... ":O}

It's a team effort, but on the Admin side Aedan leads us with his faithful companion Gizmo ever at his side! ":O}

Aren't there sites that advertise that setting up your own Web page is a snap? Sure, it's not a Web site, but your own one page presence is a good start.

freewebs.com is one that i started to put my html knowledge to work, and when i learn something new i can go try it there. but the websites i have seen dont really teach you any thing they tell some things and thats the difference. and i wanted something the read in school, and or away from a computer.
