Samsung Shows Off 12mm Thick AMOLED Display

"This week at the 2006 Korea Electronics Show, Samsung showed off a 17-inch AMOLED that was only 12mm thick -- the panel itself is only 1.8mm thick. Being one of the thinnest in the world, the display is based on organic LED technology and produces brightness and image quality to LCD displays available today. This display is able to run at 1600x1200 resolution, which is the sweet spot for many of today's larger format displays. At 17-inches however, 1600x1200 may be a bit too much for some."

THis has been a promasing technology wayyyy to long. They really need to increase the funding for this and get a bigger screen size.

Using an a-Si process, AMOLED screen sizes of up to 2.8m (111 inches) are currently possible. It's just stupidly expensive! Samsung had already announced a 21" AMOLED screen. Seiko Epson had announced a 40" colour OLED display (in 2004) - don't know if it's AMOLED or PMOLED though.

I'm assuming that this 17" AMOLED screen is the one that Samsung announced back in May 2004?

I hope that they solve the blue lifetime problem however - last time I checked, blue was very limited in hours of operation.
