DVD Hiccup?

Now that I have the big screen going I want to be able to watch movies on it obviously. But when I play DVD movies there are occasional hiccups in the video and or audio. They are subtle and if necessary I can live with them but I would rather eliminate them. The DVD drive in my HTPC is pretty generic I think. Could that be the problem? Too crappy or not enough buffer? Could it be not setup right? I am using power DVD to watch them could that be the problem?

Ok the HW acceleration was indeed turned off in Power DVD. I didn't have a chance to put in any movies that I have seen do it before though so I wasnt able to test it out but I'll let you know what happens. I am watching a movie tonight so i'll keep an eye on it. Thanks guys!

Ok so I had to change software. My HTPC is running SageTv and I am trying to integrate as many functions as I can into it. It has a built in DVD player but I haven’t been able to get it to work. It turns out that the DVD decoder it ships wit his not able to play DVDs for some stupid reason. So it is necessary to use the decoder from another program. Power DVD doesn’t work with it for some reason. So I got InterVideo DVD player last night and set it up as the decoder in SageTv. It worked out great. I know that changing too many variables while trying to solve problems isn’t usually a good idea but I was trying to solve three problems so changing two variables seemed ok. InterVideo also had an enable HW accel. Setting so I turned that on and watched part of ‘The Thin Red Line’ last night.
It looked great no glitching and It seemed like the pan problem may be solved also. Though that one may trickier. It seems like it depends on the movie. I’ll watch some more movies this weekend and report back.

In the mean time I can’t say enough good things about SageTv. It is a great program and it is pretty expandable. There are all kinds of people writing plugins for it and you can write your own if you are so inclined. It seemed a little clumsy at first but really it is just a little challenging on the learning curve, which it turns out, that I like. Once you get it set up the way that you want and learn how it can work with you it is really great!
