not happening. Period. THe whole point of the blu-ray/HD-DVD battle is to give certain companies an advantage. How does this do that?

yeah...

Wasn't there an optical chip which was cheaper than 3$ per piece if bought with a 1000 at a time that could do both?
There seem to be numerous ways of integrating an ATAPI device that can do both. It just doesn't fit in the marketing strategy of both power fronts of both technologies.

That's a pity as I, and probably many others, would very likely buy a combo drive.

Dual players will be available next year, like the article says. Quite clearly Broadcom is negotiating supply of these processors to interested manufacturers.

We're also likely to see disc media which has data stored in both formats.

Neither format is going to die anytime soon. The battle is likely to end before anyone wins outright.

eh I'll belive it when I see it. I could see everybody benefitting from a combo disk.
