Local Disk

In short terms, install an Ultra multipurpose front panel(4 usb,1 firewire, card readers, etc). The local disk change to H:\ (as usual it was C ) and recognize the four usb ports as HDD (C,D,E and F) the DVDrom goes to J:\(it was G). Recovery console don't work any more. It shows only C: and of course there is nothing there. Do a lot of things trying to fix it, finally disable them and uninstall them. They don't appear on "My computer" any more but need to shut down every time I reboot and a box saying "There is no drive ect.(or something like that)" with the alternatives of "cancel, retry, ignore".

This is very annoying
Any thoughts

You should be able to change the USB and other drives letter in drive management.

At least not with software. I may/will unplug them fisically, exepct for the fire wire, the sata and the card reader. Actually the usb are conected directlly to one of the mobo usb port with a Y.

When it comes to assigning drive letters, the general rules are:

Primary partitions are scanned first, starting with IDE.
Logical partitions are scanned second, starting with IDE.

It sounds like your hard disk does not have a primary partition, but only logical partitions?

Didn't think of that. If he changes it to a primary in disk manager, won't it wipe his data?

Yes, if you change it from logical to primary, it'd result in data loss. Depending on disk layout, it can be less than trivial to convert logical to primary.

I am still thinking that it should be done. Won't having your primary drive change to something else cause program problems?
