I've a Philips Accoustic Edge soundcard, connected to a modified set of Yamaha TSS-1 5.1 speakers. I modified them by replacing the small sub with a Cerwin Vega twelve inch subwoofer. And I've replaced two of the satellites with my old Realistic Minimus Seven speakers. No need for headphones, I live alone. And my neighbor is usually somewhere else.

I've merely got a cheap set of Philips 2.1 speakers. I live in the barracks here on post and my space is very limited and needs to be kept orderly at all times. This kind of limits what I can put where. In fact, the sub from the set is almost too big to put in there. However, the simply AWFUL speaker inside of my computer (apparently 'workstation' means 'not for play') necessitated new speakers.

The attached picture shows just how limited my space is (you see pretty much all of my computer space right there.) The speakers are nice and small and go on either side of the monitor.

A computer without a decent sound system is not being used to the fullest i say.

5.1 for me, 6x100w rms balanced system running off a sony digital cinema hifi surround amp. Its 4x100w high frequency positional speakers (4 corners) 1x100w front centre mid range speaker and 1x100 high power low frequency sub.

Its abit over powered and a few years ago i did knock a can of coke of a flatmates desk two rooms down whilst playing a chemical brothers track a tad loud

I use a 5.1 system but with a bunch of thrown-together speakers.
I have a great $250 Sony stereo for the front mains, then a basic generic sub & center, and two altec lansing for the rear.
Sounds pretty good too.
One day I'll invest in a complete logitech system.

Nope, it's a new Mac Pro. I decided when these things came out that I needed one for several reasons:

1. Replace my old Powerbook (boy, are these Xeon processors fast)
2. Boot Windows via Boot Camp (haven't had a single compatibility problem yet)

3. and most importantly GAME!
